Not diabetic, but experiencing diabetic symptoms

Initially, I had a fasting blood sugar of 5.8mmol/l last October 2010 and the doctor referred me to a glucose tolerance test. The test was negative but I was still experiencing the symptoms. I've had several blood tests, urine tests and another glucose tolerance test over the past several months just to make sure, and all came up being negative regarding diabetes. However, to this day, I am still experiencing symptoms such as unintentional weight loss, frequent urination, thirst, tiredness and eye irritation. For all the tests I've had, I followed all guidelines correctly prior to taking them; to avoid false positive results.

Is this diabetes or is it another metabolic disorder? Please help.

Please help.I would have your doctor test your blood sugar, or pick a Glucometer up at a local drugstore. It sounds to me (being a diabetic) that you have Diabetes but only a dr can diagnose. The symptoms are constant thirst, frequest urinating and weight loss. Also I would go to the ADA (American Diabetes Association) for more information. Good luck to you.

  • 2 questions: 1. Do diabetics always have elevated blood sugar levels? 2. Would a diabetic always show positive results after taking a 2-hour glucose tolerance test? Responses would kindly appreciated.
