I have posted this before and had no responses, but thought I would give it a try again.

I am 29 years old, not overweight, somewhat active, and a smoker for 10 years (I know it's bad, I am trying to quit).

I have always had a problem with acid reflux. Sometimes I feel like food gets stuck between my nose and mouth. I am familiar with both of these feelings, so they do not alarm me.

What is alarming me is everything I am about to list. I have been coughing up super sticky phelgm for a couple of months now. It sometimes has tiny brown spots in it. I also get super sticky mucus in my nose that is usually white in color ( can even be opaque) and is very difficult to remove. If it dries in my nose it feels like I have put glue in my nose. The last couple of mornings, there has also been blood in this. It can't be dry air because I sleep with my head inches from a humidifier.

Occassionally I feel heavy pressure in my chest. It only lasts a couple of seconds, but it is very scary and it takes my breath away...like it was pushed out of me. This is either accompanied by or is directly following a rapid heartbeat that lasts only seconds.

I have pain behind my right ear that radiates down my neck, under my jaw, over the right collar bone, and through my right should. I have constant dull, light pain in my right calf in the inside of my leg where the muscle meets the bone, and overall general muscle discomfort everywhere else. I have also been experiencing some teeth pain in my molars and on most days my tongue is coated white (yuck).

Generally, I feel like crap most days. I just want to feel better.

Does anyone know what is wrong with me?

  • hate to say it..but most of the respiratory issues may be linked to the smoking. the red flags that said that was the coughing up the super sticky stuff and that it sometimes has brown spots. my friend in high shcool smoked for only 2 years. he smoked the menthols..which supposedly a lot worse for you. he was coughing up blood. cigarettes contain a lot of nasty chemicals that can cause issues. I would see a doctor. I'm not sure about the muscle pain. it could be linked with the other symptoms although i'm not sure. I will link a post from www.medicinenet.com. i'm not one to scare people but i did look this up.http://www.medicinenet.com/lung_cancer/page4.htm#tocealthough i doubt this is your case..it still does not hurt to look into it. when and if you go to the dr..have him give you some options to help stop smoking. good luck!

  • Refluxed liquid that passes the larynx can enter the lungs. The reflux of liquid into the lungs often results in coughing and choking. Aspiration, however, can also occur without producing these symptoms. With or without these symptoms, it may lead to infection of the lungs. You should talk to your doctor since this can cause fibrosis of the lung. Ask for an xray.
