im in iraq at the moment and im having a few issues. every day, sometimes a few times a day, i start to itch all over from head to toe. if it goes on long enough i start to develop a rash on the sensitive areas of my body like my forearms. it feels like hundreds of little needles or bites all over me. i went and got blood work done by the docs and those came up "negative". i dont know whats causing it but i have been able to narrow down what isnt...
dry skin: i started using lotion
bed bugs: new mattress and sleeping bag
body soap: i changed brands
detergent: i got my cammies washed by a different contractor
food: i eat different foods

this is an everyday occurance so i have changed everything i possibly could about my day to day routine. the only thing that seems to help is to dowse my body in ice cold water and sit in one spot till it stops. heat seems to aggravate it. the "docs" told me that nothing is wrong and gave me some benadryl which has no effect except to make me drowsy. please, does anyone have any idea what this is and how i can fix it?

  • Hi Sorry to hear you are having problems. Did this problem start while you were in Iraq? Do you have any history of skin conditions? Do you recall being bitten by anything recently? Cheers

  • It's not prickly heat, is it? Anyway, look up "dermatology skin rash pictures" and see if any look like yours.

  • you could be exposed to a posion, insecticide or something...it still could be scabies or a fungus, too...possible shingles, but doubt it...could be measles-virus-like??? do you have a fever??? ...it could be something you are eating or breathing or an allergy..poison oak??? doubt if they have that there...did you get this after sex?

  • So you think it might be prickly heat? Then you know it's blocked sweat glands. Are you using sun-block? Or old sun-block? Get a new bottle and I think there is a liquid, not lotion type available. Or try oil-free. I looked up "prickly heat and sun-block" and half the articles said to be sure to use sun-block, and the other half said NOT to. Have you tried a non-sedating antihistamine or calamine lotion?

  • Sounds like it could be hives. The next time you get a reaction, try taking an antihistamine and see if it lessens the level of symptoms or duration. My wife used to get hives, they'd come on out of the blue then just go away after a while. She started taking benadryl when she'd feel them coming on and it helped a lot.

  • check into shingles; if it's that, an antiviral and nerve pain meds would help a lot...could be all the other stuff I mentioned except poison oak.
