A few years ago i started walking with a friend. We would walk fast and up big hills. I gave it up for the birth of my now 2 yr old twins. Whe the twins were 1 I started up again and was doing great but then my health declined and the flu symptoms kicked in. I started just taking it easy when we walked, then I stopped doing the hills, then I stopped all together because i was worn out for the rest of the day, this was not rigorous walking.
I have had almost continuous cold or flu symptoms for the past 2 1/2 years.
If I over do it even slightly it starts out with a sore throat and then a cough or chest infection, or swollen glands.
I have had these symptoms one after the other so many times now I can't count.
My doctor has done some blood tests but no results.
he tells me I'm just run down with 4 children under 5, but i don't believe this is nothing.
he sent me to a specialist who has done further tests (wish i new what for but i think off the top of my head Lupus? Hiv? thyroid) and no results

I do get heavy periods and a heavy mucus discharge for a few days after, I don't know if this has any relevance but it is something that has only started happening in recent months.

I am fit 31yrs old I don't smoke or drink alcohol or caffeine drinks. I have a regular diet, although a low appetite I eat when I'm hungry, and i feel i eat enough.

I get tired so easily. I do have energy to get by but if I over do it i'm hit with a sore throat or such like.

I have no pain anywhere else.

Any ideas?

  • Sounds like possibly a very minor case of Chronic fatigue immunity dysfunction syndrome (too minor currently for a diagnoses of this). I have CFIDS and the sore throat is one of the first warning signs many of us get when we over doing it, then that can go into the flu like symtoms eg swollen glands, slight fever, cough etc CFIDS can have an extremely slow onset over time or a rapid onset. Best luck.. i hope it improves and dont go and get worst. Take care.

I have been recently diagnosed with CFIDS (CFS) caused by EB virus. (Ebstein Barr/Mononucleosis virus). My wife have never had any CFIDS symptoms. Still after the diagnosis I wanted her to get checked. Her blood test came back as if she had contracted Mono no longer than a few months ago, except, she had no symptoms. This leads me to the conclusion that EBV became active once again after our son was born because I have been with my wife all along the 8+ years. I did some reasearch and found that EBV may become active again during/after pregnancy. If you are one of the unlucky ones that is prone to CFIDS you will experience symptoms like the one you described and EBV my stick around for a long time. Get tested for Ebstein-Barr!
