I need help. I have no health insurance, can't afford a hospital or walk in clinic, the health department won't take me until december and I am sick and I don't know what is wrong with me. Iv'e done some research on my symptoms but nothing really adds up. I have a very swollen and painful lymphnode only on my right side. On that same side my neck is swollen and the gland behind my ear is swollen. I have an earache in my right ear. Also directly behind that same ear I have 2 peanut sized lumps. One is hard and feels like bone or something. I have a similar hard bump in a similar location behind the opposite ear. And behind my head, along the hairline, again on the right side is another hard bump. I have also been waking up with swollen eye lids. I have no other symptoms. I know it is impossible to get a diagnosis with out seeing a doctor. But I cannot afford it. I am scared and don't feel well! Kcolleran@tampabay.rr.com

  • :o If I were you I would go to the Hospital Emergency Room , they can't refuse you for not having Insurance . What State do you live in ? Do you have Medicaid ? Here in Ky . where I live , the Hospitals have a program established for Non - Insured Patient's , if the Patient can't pay the Hospital tells the Patient how to apply for Medasist - which covers the complete for them , based solely on financial need . I would not mess around with the condition you seem to be suffering with , my Cousin had Leukemia years ago , and it started - out with swollen Lymph Nodes on his Neck . Have you noticed increased Bruising ? Loss of Appetite ? Please get this looked at soon , I would'nt wait until December .. Keep me posted . Take Care .:o

  • Thank you very much fir your reply. I don't have any other symptoms but I did forget to mention that I have been like this for a week now. I live in Florida and I don't think I will be able to afford what the hospital will probably charge me. My parents insurance kicked me off when I turned 18 and I go to school part time and I work part time which makes it almost impossible to get insurance. I have looked into individual insurance but they cost around $75 a month & that is with a $5,000 deductiable. I am going to call the hospital and find out about this medasist. I mean sereiously, what do they expect people in my situation to do? Grrr.... Thanks so much for your help, wish me luck! Kcolleran@tampabay.rr.com

  • Sounds potentially serious (i.e. would need to rule out cancer ASAP)- get yourself seen by whatever means nessescary. The American system sounds shocking. How can doctors turn people away with problems like that?

  • Thanks to everyone who replied. Well I decided to go to a walk in clinic yesterday. Turns out I have mono:( . But at least now I am being treated for it. The clinic charged me $75 for the visit and $10 for the perscription. Not too bad but it was $85 I didn't have. Now it's not that the American system will turn you away, they won't. It is just that they don't care if you can afford it or not. There are millions of people in this country that have to choose between health care or food. America is a great country, there health care system on the other hand, could use a little improvement. Thanks for caring guys! Kcolleran@tampabay.rr.com

  • :p Wow, I am so happy that it was just Mono . I was worried . Glad to hear that you finally decided to seek Medical attention . I totally agree with your opions on our Medical Coverage problems here in the US . I have Health Insurance Coverage but it only covers so much , I cringe when the Dr. orders tests like MRI's , CT Scans , or god for bid Surgery . The expense is enormous , it leaves me thinking hey , I thought Insurance was supposed to pay more for these procedures . Anyway , I am glad your on the way to wellness . Take Care of yourself , I don't think I've ever had Mono . but I recall kids getting it when I was in High School , if I remember right I think that mostly young people get it , I did get Strept Throat though , but not since I had my Tonsils taken out . Good Luck .;)
