Okay, this may sound disturbing to some, but I am posting anyway. I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth this morning while my husband was getting up from going to the bathroom. He had a LARGE amount of bright red blood (about 1/4 cup) pouring out of him, and dripping all over the floor. This may sound disgusting, but it was like blood when i have my period. He said it was no big deal, and has had it before recently. I started freaking out, and am trying to make him a doctors appointment, of course he doesnt want to go. Does anybody have a clue what this could be? he doesnt have hemeroids, and the amount of blood was alarming (at least to me). He is 43 years old, in good shape, and from what we think, good health, he doesnt like to go to the doctor often.
And also what kind of doctor would i make an appt with? gastro? urologist? need some advice here, and i apologize for the graphic nature of this email.

Thanks in advance.

  • I have not ever had anything like that happen before but my advice is to get your husband to a gastro quickly. Any bleeding from the rectum could indicate colon cancer. It could be as simple as diverticulitis but any bleeding is nothing to play around with.

  • depends where it's coming from...has he been out of the country? Oh yes, doctor visit asap, if not emergency room.

  • My dad loved spicy food so we went out for Mexican food one night and he had many peppers. The next day he had rectal bleeding so decided to go to the G.I. doc for a colonoscopy. They found cancer of the cecum (which is near the appendix) and operated immediately. He had no chemo or radiation and lived another 20 years. God bless spicy food! Added bonus...since they took out some small and large intestine, he could eat more food and not get fat. So tell your husband to get his butt to the doctor and stop being such a wimp. Call your regular doc and ask for the name of a G.I. doc. If Katie Couric could do it on TV (a U.S. TV personality), then you husband can go to the doc. If you are the same age, why don't you have one also?
