I'm a 23yr old male, Healthy, I workout and maintain myself pretty good. I've done decent in school and have many friends. For the past 4-5 years whenever im around a girl, like on a date for example. Specifically out for dinner or eating. I have a really hard time eating, I completely lose my appetite and feel like I will vomit if I try to eat.

I try to think it off in my head, that im just nervous, but it doesn't really help. A few years ago, I picked up a girl I was seeing, before I went and got her I had a protein shake. When I picked her up i got this feeling again and I had to make up some excuse to drop her off. As soon as she got out i took off and turned on a side road and vomited.

Im fine around my friends and people i dont know. Its just as soon as I know a girl likes me I starting getting nervous I guess...

I have been having pretty bad heartburn for the past few yrs. To the point now where I have to have zantac with me all the time, specially before I goto bed. Also, If I cough really hard sometimes I will vomit, or when im brushing my teeth I have to be careful or i will puke.

Anyone have some suggestions please, this is getting to the point where its really effecting my life. Thank you.

  • I had a similar problem about a year ago but not with girls, its just I couldnt eat without the fear of choking. I would have to chew everything to a pulp before swallowing. Your problem may be like mine and just be a mental thing. I had to find ways to get my mind off of it before I could eat properly, and once I did, it eventually became easier to eat without that fear. What I figured out, and what may be youre problem, is that I think too much about things and it tends to cut into my daily life. Having trouble eating is not the only problem like this I have faced; many others have popped up over the years. Maybe you could set up dates at a movie or someplace where you will not have to eat and get to know the girl. Then as you become more comfortable around her take her out to eat. I have trouble eating on dates for fear of bad manners or whatnot that may turn her away and also my nervousness tends to override my appetite. It may just take some time. Another thing it may be is an extremely sensitive gag reflex. My gag reflex is so bad it prevents me from swallowing medium to large pills. I have never been to a doctor concerning this but you might want to see what you can get done since yours seems to be severe. My guess is that some of the things you suffer from are mental and you will gradually outgrow them like I did but this could be a real problem. I am no doctor but I hope I have helped. Good luck with it.

  • It's called social anxiety. There are multiple support groups, medications, homeopathic remedies etc. I would try hypnosis with a qualified psychologist first.

  • I recommend hypnotherapy for that kind of issue. I had hypnotherapy myself for an issue i had, (a different one to you thou, but I know it works great to change fears etc), and it worked great. Be aware that one may not think it is working the first few sessions, for myself it was about the 4th or 5th session before I noticed an improvement on my issue, (I even had doubts that he was properly getting me under as I just felt relaxed). I ended up thou having 6 sessions.. and it completely fixed my issue.

  • Thanks for your replys. As an update.. I've beening seeing this girl for about 2-3 weeks now.. sometimes im fine around her then the other night I was out with some buddies at a club and I knew she was there, she came up and grabbed me and I got really nervous and nauseous instantly. I felt like I could have puked right there. I got really quiet all of a sudden and just concentrated on making it go away, I almost had to leave it was so bad. Its like I start thinking about stuff too much and get caught up in it... I dunno, its hard to explain. This is kind of embarrassing, but I just want it to go away, its getting really annoying.
