6 year old multi-racial girl who is carrying sickle cell gene trait, started late Thursday afternoon (9/03/09) with fever of 103.
Visited ER on Sunday morning with 104.8 fever, later that day began alternating high 105.8/low 97.6 fever with chills and tiredness, not eating.
Did urinalysis - no bacteria, and blood tests w/white blood count of 15, lung x-ray showed no pneumonia, no burning when urinating, no constipation nor diahreaa, no headache, no earaches, no cough, no sore throat, no vomiting.
Results of 24-hr throat culture, and blood & urinalysis showed negative to any known bacterial disease.
Unable to detect any known virus but Dr suspects viral infection & recommended alternating Tylenol & Ibuprophen every 3 hrs during periods of 100+ fever, which we have been administering since Sunday.
Dr said w/no other symptoms, that it must be a viral infection somewhere in the body, and unless she experiences a seizure, there is nothing else that can be done.
No seizures have occurred, symptoms remain the same except that today fever only reached a high of 101.8
