5 Months ago I had some left chest discomfort and left work in the morning to goto the ER and have them check it out. They sent me to a cardiologist who inturn did stress test and another EKG and stated to me with 99 percent certainty that the discomfort and pain I was experiencing was not heart related.
I then went to my general doctor, he had me get a from knees to top of head CT scan. The scan showed nothing....Except a 2cm nodule on my thyroid. The doctor at that point stopped looking for the casue of the chest pain, and began me down a path of seeing if the nodule could be cancerous. In the end it proved to be a hyperplastic nodule and since the last visit with my endocrinologist has even shrunk a little. Remember, this was not my original complaint.
As the months have gone on, the pain is under my arm and my upper back. My back feels very tight, cannot feel any lump under my arm but when I was sent to a physical therapist for about 10 sessions, he stated he felt there was some inflamation under my left arm and side especially.
The physical therapy did not help.
My endocrinologist, to play it safe, had ordered a PET scan, from the knees to the top of the head. It came back with nothing, except once again showing the thyroid nodule I already knew about.
In the past I have been diagnosed by a gastrointrologist as having acid reflux. A Couple of years ago he did a endoscopy and showed nothing major except I remember he said there was some minor inflamation and recommended a new diet. He started me on Prevacid and I have taken for the most part ever since then, and to current.
Recently, in the last three weeks, I am belching more, feel some burning in my throat, some burning down the center of my chest. Since I can't figure out what has been causing all of the original pain and discomfort, I thought maybe somehow these new symptoms could be somehow related to the original chest, underarm, back pain (most concentrated on my left side, but sometimes have minor discomfort/pain on the right side).
My wife massages my back sometimes, and for the last 3 months has had to avoid a spot on the upper left side of my back, that when pressed on feels like a knife is going thru to my chest on the upper left side.
Would anyone have a clue on who I should see next? What this may be?
Could this chest/back/underarm pain be associated, or caused by, the pre-existing acid reflux problem I knew I have before? Please help..
