I have had this problem since I remember.

I even hate to bathe or shower, because after applying baby oil, creams or lotions, I still get very itchy. Sometimes I think there will be no dry skin. However; soon after, I will be covered with flaky, scaly skin.

This drives me crazy. It is very embarassing. I cannot wear short sleeves or shorts in hot weather because of my bad skin.

Can anyone help me? I have tried SO many things that are on the shelves. I

  • IME, you are probably not digesting fat correctly. Do you still have a gallbladder ? Any history of gallbladder problems in your family ?Stools float ?Stool color green, light tan, almost pale ? Alcohol use ? Asking that because if your liver is not well, then you can't digest and use fats correctly. If you really want results, the cause(s) must be found and addressed. Otherwise only symptoms will be chased forever.

  • Hey there, You should definitley go to a good doctor. Some advice:Do some research first. Keep track of other symptoms, even if they seem unrelated until your appointment. Ask for bloodwork, etc. I can't begin to give you advice on what it might be, but I have a long history of skin problems, and it took a lot of research and a lot of being my own advocate, (especially after 2 doctors said it was just "stress") plus, an excellent doctor who really understood my problem. In the meantime, have you tried Eucerin (or generic equivalent) lotion "dry skin therapy" with alpha hydroxy? It could help control some of the flakiness. I apologize if you have had a million suggestions for lotions, etc.thrown at you already. Been there. But the alpha hydroxy helps smooth away the flaky, dry pieces, which for me was so incredibly annoying, and intensified the itch. I react to most scented lotions, etc, but for some reason this lotion does not bother me at all. May not be the same for you, but it was a life saver for me.Good luck!

  • I've had that before. For me, nothing works better than Petroleum Jelly (I recommend Vaseline). Also, bear in mind, lotion does not work on very dry skin (try BodyShop Spa Wisdom range for their body scrub and cream...works wonders for my skin!). Maybe you should also look at the shower gel/soap you are using....always go for alcohol or soap free products. If nothing works, its best to consult a professional. Good Luck!

  • It may well be eczema, or psoriasis (see www.webmd.com or Google or search engine). I use Betnovate ointment, containing antihistamines.
