healthy person, tested pos. for flu a month ago. 2 days back at work started feeling discomfort where liver is that went around to my side. Constant minor headaches with sore eyes, one day had major headache, turned white and sweated till I vomited went away after 2 hrs. Bloating in lowaer abdomen with urination problems. Doctor treated me for prostititus. That went away week later. Still have other symptoms with weird feelings where my heart is. Seemed to have teeth mark on sides of tongue. Had ultrasound of gallbladder and no stones. Had stomach and colon checked (ok). When they said I had prostate issue my blood cell where messed up. Producing loose stool almost twice a day vs. my normal once a day. The past 2 days I've had swollen glands in neck close to jaw. I'm not in any major pain I just don't feel great. I know something is just not right. I've only been to primary Dr. and GI Dr. I really can't miss anymore work. I'm almost to the point that I just want to get a ct scan of the whole body but they say that costs a fortune. I mean how do I know that I don't have cancer somewhere or have an artery clogged? Going on 3 weeks now. I took Cipro for 2 weeks but the discomfort where liver is started before the Cipro.

  • It's extremely unlikely that you have cancer anywhere. The symptoms associated with oncological disease or cancer are not expressed in the fashion described by you. This is most likely a post-viral syndrome. The teeth marks on your tongue are most likely due to mouth breathing and bruxism during sleep, that is likely also being interrupted or at the very least, reducing the quality of the sleep. The pain you are experiencing "where the liver is" is more likely due to intestinal gas and pressure, sometimes resulting in something called splenic flexure that can produce a band of pain very similar to that being described by you. This would also be supported by the fact that you mention changes in bowel habits. Many people have a great deal of confidence in imaging procedures such as the CT scan or MRI and other more sophisticated variations. The truth is that we use these procedures more to confirm what is already evident on other testing, but rarely do we expose people to imaging studies merely to go looking around for something. There's nothing magical about these studies and most often, they are negative for pathology. I think that because several weeks have passed without resolution of symptoms that you are allowing some rumination and illogical thoughts to invade your rationale, suspecting that something more sinister may be present but is being overlooked until possibly too late. Post viral syndromes can persist for several weeks and getting plenty of rest will prove beneficial. You'll be fine. Best regards, J Cottle, MD

Or did they prescribe cipro for your flu symptoms? I am confused. Did you take any other medications for your flu symptoms? Are you on any other medications? Have you had a stool exam done to check for clostridium difficile infection? DOM
