:(I don't usually do this sort of stuff but I'm at my wits end with being in pain day in day out. Maybe someone can help me. In April 2007 I was helping lift some heavy metal sheeting and after 4 days started experiencing intermittent pain in my left ear. The left side of my face felt strange as did my left arm.
I sort advice from my GP and was referred to an Osteopath. This didn't make a difference so I had an xray and was advised by GP to continue Osteo treatment. I then developed a lump on the top of my left shoulder and was advised to undertake remedial massage. After several unsuccessful massages I had an MRI of my cervical spine (October 2007). This showed cervical degenerative change and a small left posterolateral disc protrusion at C5/6 with minor encroachment upon the left C5/6 neural exit foramen.
My GP didn't seem to be to concerned about this and advised me to continue with whatever treatment made me feel better and keep taking Nurofen+. By the end of October 2007 the pain in my left ear was persistent and increasing in severity by the end of the day. I had developed a twitch under my left eye, I had a constant headache (forehead, temples, top and back of head) and my left cheek below my eye was aching. I had the feeling of just wanted to lie down.
I was referred to an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat Specialist) who suspected the pain was due to grinding my teeth, so I was referred to a prosthodontist who equipped me with a splint (mouth guard) to be worn at night.
After some delays I started wearing the splint at night and shortly after began attending physio. However, the aches and pains were still present and persistent. With pain radiating down the left side of my neck, jaw, shoulder, my left ear and by the end of the day in my upper and lower back. Occassionally this would disrupt my sleep.
So I have been attending physio and had a period of say 11 weeks were there was virtually no pain. Of this 11 weeks I was off work for 4 weeks in between. 3 weeks after being back at work all the intense pain returned starting with the twitching eye, shortly followed by the ear pain.
So back to my GP I went. He referred me for an MRI to the Left trigeminal 2nd and 3rd branch as well as my brain. The results of this were great - nothing detected. My GP prescribed Nuerontin 300 and I have been taking this since xmas eve 2008. Any relief from the pain has been negligible. I have found if I apply heat cream to my neck and shoulder (L) that the earpain subsides for a while and when I lie down the pain disappears.
I started researching the Internet for answers and there is somemuch out there that it gets so confusing so I thought maybe someone else can help. Thanks from onthebrink.
