On 1st Aug last year I had what at first we thought was a stroke...That is my left side of face went limp and eye drooped and speech slurred and then arm and leg went weak too....HOWEVER all tests show nothing....

Since then, WHENEVER I move about IE walk or travel in a car etc, the same symptoms return...Then when I rest they disappear anything from a few mins to 4 hours to clear completely..After each attack I am ledt feeling ill, like a hangover type rough feeling....

Two weeks ago things got worse...now after the left side goes the right eye and right side of face also droop...so cant open either eye...

Im desperate for help. The nuerologist says can find nothing wrong and is sending me to neuropsychiatrist BUT Im sure its physical...

Anyone got any ideas ???

  • And when the symptoms usually come? Morning or evening? Have you some problem with the overall weakness or swallowing?

I have a question. Had you taken any medications before you began having these episodes? Also it may be worth having blood levels tested during an episode. Potasium levels can effect your muscle strength. Usually this occurs after excercise and a period of rest and affects trunk and limbs. It is called hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis. There is an article called not lazy or crazy...something like that.

  • Hi, I had the exact same presentation and was sick like this for 6 months (and went through 3 neurologists) before being diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. You may read my blog that I started in January to see if it sounds like what you are going through, but first I would rush for a new neuro. I would recommend going to a University or large medical center as my experience, and many others has been poor. And MG is definitely not symmetrical, it is usually asymmetrical. My right side of my face fell, mouth drooped, and my left side of my body wouldn't work when I went to the hospital in June of last year. Anyway, good luck to you and keep fighting for yourself, trust your instinct.

  • I am so sorry for what you are going thru. I do emphasize with you. I cannot diagnose you by any means as I am not an MD; however, have you ever heard of Complex or Complicated Migraines? Complex Migraine is really a misnomer, as it is a “migraine” that involves stroke-like symptoms, with nothing readily showing up on any scans or tests, and they can last for days, if not weeks. I know—I have had them for five years. Your visual symptoms described above seem to somewhat fit the bill, but, again, only a professional can diagnose you. I do have a blog at: http://complexmigraine.blogspot.com/. This describes my experiences. However, I want to encourage you, if you can, because I know it can get expensive, to really shop around for someone who can help you. No one should be trying to send you to a shrink right off the bat, for instance. Personally, I get a little sick and tired of women being blown off and assumed to be nutso, just because nothing shows on a doctor’s latest doo-hickies. Doctors are relying on these tests and scans way too much; they, if anyone, should understand the complexity of the human brain. You need someone who can really help you, and I do care.

  • You should read up on migraines as this could be" migraine without headache", see if the descriptions fit your symptoms.
