This past March I contracted Strep-throat. After a bumpy start on 3 different types of antibiotics the strep was cured. But then I got what the docs said was an oral Candida infection. (Thrush?) They put me on Diflucan and then had me rinse with Nystatin when it wasn’t clearing up. Every time I came off the drugs it came back with a vengeance. I then went on Diflucan for 2 months at 100mg a day!!!! (Yes they are testing my liver etc.).
The did a tongue scraping and found a small colony of non-Candida albican. They were unable to classify what kind of Candida so after 2 months of them trying to grow it to test which drugs would kill it they (just last week ...ugh!) sent it to an independent company to figure out what kind of Candida it is. All they know is it’s not Albicans.
I came off it and 2 weeks later I was back and down my throat this time they put me on Diflucan at 400mg (!!)
Here are my symptoms:
Film on mouth and tongue. Roof of mouth has small clear blisters from the back of the throat to the middle of the roof of my mouth. The back of my throat and tongue feel like "smooth" sand paper when I run my tongue on the roof of my mouth.
Complicating matters I am a gastric banding patient and the infection moved down my throat and swelled my stomach causing an emergency removal of all the fluid from my band. And I have gained 11 pounds back. :(
I need help this has been going on for 7 months! I'm getting sicker and sicker. My immune system is busted. (Been tested for AIDS I do not have it.)
