My 11 month old son was born with swelling in his lower extremeties. The swelling has gone away all but his feet, primarily his right foot. At first the swelling was said to be because he was folded in half while in the womb. Now the doctors just have no answer. His right foot stays swollen at all times and looks like it is going to pop. Also the veins in his legs between his knee and his ankle are starting to bulge out. The veins bulge more when he is walking and using his legs. His feet also turn purple and are warm to touch.

The doctors have said they believe it may be poor circulation in his venous veins. He has had and EKG and ultrasound of his heart, both came back perfect with no abnormalties. He has had his blood checked for protein, his protein is fine. He then had an ultrasound of his belly and veins in his legs, those results came back normal too.

It is believed that whatever is causing the circulation problem is in his pelvic region. At this point the doctors have told me they don't know what else to do, or what other test to run. I'm worried, something has to be done.

My son does also have Hirschsprungs Disease, he had 6inches of intestine removed at 3mths old. He has had a complete genetic makeup and his chromosomes are all normal.

Any help you can provide would be so very appreciated.
Thank you

  • I would look for a specialist who could work for the child asap. If one says he doesn't know, then you go to another one.
