I have a 5 year old daughter and she has some persistent symtoms. Joint pain, crawling skin, headache, stomachache. She can't regulate her emotions. She gets into a phase of disorganized play and extreme hyperactivity. These phases can come and go for a couple of days to a week. She is always moving. She barely eats. I had her tested for celiac and that came back normal. Someone else suggested sugar intake. She is contantly asking for them. I limit them as much as I can. She says it makes her body feel better when she is moving. She is gifted so I know there can be issues with that as well. I just don't know what to make of it anymore. She is always complaining about something hurting. :( If anybody has gone through this with your child please respond.

  • Dear cebu2;After looking over what information you've supplied I'm not really sure I can give an accurate diagnosis. What will help me in determining it would involve you answering these questions:*How long have these symptoms persisted?*Is she anemic?*What does her diet usually consist of?*The main areas of her discomfort are where?*Have you tried removing factors from her playing environment (things that she could be allergic to but you've yet to find out)? OR Where is your daughter's current playing environment?*What is your daughter's height and weight?*When did these symptoms start occurring?*What medication do you give your daughter for the pain or does she take already?*Do you allow unsupervised playing for your daughter?*When you say "gifted" what do you mean? These questions will help me in being able to give you a correct diagnosis however, your child may have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) "disorganized play and extreme hyperactivity" as you had mentioned. ADHD is common in children and Adults so this is not really anything to worry about but I recommend that you take her to get her checked for that. Please fill out the questions I had listed and I'll do my best to give you an accurate diagnosis.Thank you for your cooperation and I hope I can further assist you soon.-Tie

I don't think she is anemic, because she has had blood work done that showed her iron was fine. She eats pretty wholesome food when she does eat. Whole wheat bread, milk, fruit, cookies for treats. She complains about stomach pain daily, all day. Head hurts on the forehead most days. The joint are mainly her feet, knees and elbows.I have had her tested for Celiac but that came back normal. EEG was normal, Thyroid normal. I tried removing food coloring from her diet, it didn't seem to have much effect. I stay at home with her so her environment is mostly at home. I am now trying removing as much sugar as I can from her diet to see if that has any effect. She is 44" tall and 41lbs.I have noticed she has gotten a high fever, vomiting, and bad headache 3 times in the past 3 months. It lasts only a day, maybe two.I give her Tylenol for pain and she is on Enalapril, an ACE inhibitor for her kidney. She had her left kidney removed as an infant due to severe high blood pressure. The other kidney has a duplicated collection system and is scarred a bit so we take the Enalpril to take the stress off.She does play around the house while I do dishes, etc. so I am not continuously watching her.She has an IQ of 140 so she is gifted. We had her tested because we knew something was different about her. I had thought about getting her into Kindergarten early, but later decided against it. Gifted kids, it is my understanding, can handle the stimulus coming from their envrionment in ways that can negatively affect their behavior. I know they are more at risk for SPD (sensory processing disorder) Her mind is always going, with questions, answers, new ideas constantly. She has this energy that needs to find an outlet and that is me or whatever else interests her. She has so much trouble regulating her emotions. We have an appointment with an OT to be evaluated for SPD, also I called her doctor and again told them about these symtoms and they ordered a Chem 14, CBC, ESR?, and the Barre disease test, not sure. I think he is looking for inflammation and past viruses. I have gotten her evaluated for ADHD. Her behavior at home fits very well, but at Preschool this last year she was a model student. They said if it isn't occuring in school then it must not be ADHD. Yet, I spoke with the Gifted Center and they said that alot of gifted kids with ADHD can hold it together very well at school, especially if they want to please the teacher or they are being engaged in the activities, so I think time will tell. It would explain a lot, but gosh I hope not. Thanks for your interest, hopefully you might be able to see a new angle.

  • Well, I hadn't thought of that. They did put up a tower at a new development about 2 footfall fields away recently. She has had the joint pain and behavior problems for some time though, the only new symptoms are headache, stomach ache, and the crawling skin. We just moved here last September. Thanks.
