My 20 year old son has been sick for a few weeks and we can't seem to figure out what is going on. I would appreciate your help!! His symptoms are feeling faint, sweating with no fever, weak arms and legs, sore throat, occasional migraines, basically feeling terrible. We went to the doctor and they did a strep test, which came back negative. I just have no idea where to turn. Thank you from a very worried mom.

  • Regarding the feeling of faintness and weakness, is he dehydrated?  Has he been taking in adequate quantites of fluids?  Regarding the sweating and sore throat with generalized weakness and malaise, it sounds like a viral infection, for which antibiotics will be of no benefit, but instead rest and hydration.  However, if this has been going on for several weeks with no improvement, you may also want to ask his primary care doctor about getting a chest x-ray and CBC (complete blood count) with differential. Please also check his temperature when he has the episodes of sweating, since someone may not necessarily mount a continuous fever.
