I am 31 years old and I have a diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I have had a colonoscopy (2 polyups removed), a flexible sigmoidoscopy and upper Endoscopies; my doctor wanted to do further testing before we lost our medical insurance. I do not know what to do now. My symptoms are changing, an I am scared they could be worsening. Please help if you can!

I used to be obese, and I have lost over 80lbs since my symptoms started two years ago. I am half the size I used to be.

Symptoms: I am ill (nausea, vomiting, heartburn, indigestion, stomach pain) every morning when I wake up, whether I ate dinner the night before or not. If I eat dinner the night before it is much worse and more painful in the morning.

I am also ill frequently during or immediately after eating. I often do not eat much before intense stomach pain starts (when food begins to digest in my stomach). Sometimes I will immediately feel nauseated and will vomit after eating. I usually feel satiated when the pain starts and no longer desire to eat. I become intensely ill when consuming unhealthy and greasier foods, so I avoid them now.

I am being conditioned to avoid eating because it always causes pain.

Previous, I was having cycles consisting of boughts of diarhhea followed by a period of constipation. The constipation is so much worse now, and I have to take Colace to try and prevent this from happening or the stomach pain is overwhelming.

My life is completely awful and I have no idea what to do. Any and all suggestions, especially homeopathic suggestions, would be greatly appreciated!

  • Obese people VERY OFTEN develop fatty liver and gall bladder issues, which would match many of the symptoms you describe, and rapid weight loss often aggravates these problems. The problems arising soon after eating are especially common with gall bladder problems as this is when the gall bladder is supposed to empty bile into the stomach to help digest food. If you've got stones blocking the duct this causes intense pain after eating, and without bile from the gall bladder, fatty foods cause bad indigestion. As you state greasy food is a major trigger for you, I'd put money on this as your problem. An ultrasound and/or gall bladder workup would confirm this, but if you've lost your insurance this could be a problem. Lecithin from eggs or supplements helps increase bile production and flow through the gall bladder which could help you flush small stones and "mud" through your gall bladder into your GI tract for elimination, but if you've got a complete blockage of your bile duct from large stones, increased bile production could lead to a serious ACUTE gall bladder problem requiring immediate surgery. Lecithin is also the best fix for a fatty liver. I'm not a doctor, and I can't advise you to try this (lecithin) without confirming whether or not you've got large stones or a complete blockage, but this is what you need to look at next. Good Luck & GodSpeed to you.

It can cause a lot of stomach upset and episodes of diarrhea and constipation!!! I find I do much better falling a diet free of gluten. I also stay away from all sugar. I am now on B12 shots twice a week. You might want to try staying away from the three whites, salt, sugar, and flour (all glutens). Try supplementing with sublingual B12. It can't hurt you and is worth a try.Hang in there,My Dr. would have bet I had gallstones, that wasn't true at all and I had to have an ultra-sound to prove it.Connieknwnj

  • Sounds like Coeliac Disease. I suffered for 22 years and was treated for other conditions as a result of being misdiagnosed, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (also told many times there was nothing wrong with me). After finally finding a decent doctor who was prepared to make proper investigations, I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. Note - According to my doctor, the biopsies taken from endoscopic or colonoscopic examination are random and may not necessarily reveal your condition.

  • Drink lots of water and avoid nuts, seeds, acidic and spicy foods like tomatos, pepsi, tea and especially coffee. Do an internet search for IBS diets. Look up your local county health clinic to get income adjusted health care or even try applying for disability. Check with pharamacutical companys (another internet search or ask your pharmacist) for info about prescription drug assistance and if you can get a clinic doc then ask him about Amitiza. (Do another internet search) natural anti-inflammatorys like ginger and crushed flax (dont use the seeds as the shape and hardness of most seeds arent good for IBS).(another internet search ) You may also want to try a celiac diet for awhile and see if that helps.Acid reflux and sinus drainage from allergys could be the initial causes too?Keep a food journal ... and try each thing for a few months so you can at least eliminate them if not pin point the irritants. IBS is after all ... inflammation of the colon! Good luck Ive been there too!===================================================I am 31 years old and I have a diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. • Your symptoms reminded me of when my sister had gall stones. She ended up having to have surgery as it just got worst and worst. You really do need to go back to doctor and have investigation for this.
