Hi folks,

I have a very very strange problem. I have been to ENT "specialists" and so called "expert" gastroenterologists but to no avail. A total of 4 different doctors and none could diagnose whats wrong with me.

Let me tell you guys whats wrong. :(

This happens usually (not always) when i eaten or drunk something. One done I have difficulty in speaking. I cant speak more than one sentence at a time for the next few hours. Its like my throat closes up on me and I need to keep swallowing saliva again and again. And it is difficult to swallow saliva cause I feel a lump in my throat. And this lump in the throat i can feel most of the day and I need to keep clearing my throat as muscous forms at the back of my throat. I suddenly become fearful and scared and it worsens the symptoms further.

This has been like this for abt 3 years now.

This is killing me. My social life has come crashing down. I am depressed and on anti-depressents to survive.

Please help.

Otherwise it sounds like an epiglottis problem: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/e/epiglottis_diseases/symptoms.htm

  • Is it worse with certain foods? Otherwise it sounds like an epiglottis problem: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/e/epiglottis_diseases/symptoms.htm Its very worse with citrus related foods and carbonated drinks. But i dont think it can be epiglottis problem. I dont have any of the symptoms related to it.

  • im wondering do u notice if this is with cold foods and drinks? It happens with hot coffee as well. I am guessing its either an allergy or GERD or maybe vocal fold nodule... but which doctor do I go to for this. Everyone seem to have some stupid reason for it. One even told me it was in my head and I am imagining it.

  • my husband had similar symptoms when he was younger and was eventually diagnosed with a narrowing of the esophagus. the scope used to confirm this diagnosis actually ended up widening his esophagus enough to correct the problem enough that he is able to function almost completely normally now. best wishes to you.
