My husband has been getting sick on a pretty regular basis (4-5 weeks). He starts with a gassy feeling in his stomach and intestines, and then ends up throwing up all night with severe cramping. It knocks him out pretty much for a whole day and then he gradually gets his energy back.

His blood work is normal, and tested negative for H pylori, even though we put him on the bismuth treatment anyway. We thought it was his gallbladder, but there's no pain associated in that quadrant of his abdomen.

Does anyone have any experience with something that comes in intervals like that?

Thanks for any input.

  • I suffer from the same condition. It occurs eery 4 weeks to the day. It began after travelling to thailand 2 years ago (Feb 2009) I got sick over there, brushing it off as food poisoning. Then it began on a monthly occurance from June (2009) until I was hospitalised in February (2010). I had all sorts of tests done - cat scans, MRI, Ultrasounds (external & internal), blood tests, edoscopy, colonoscopy, for nothing to be found. It has since been occuring every 4 weeks with my last episode occuring 2 days occuring which resulted in me fainting and having a fit on the floor. No doctor knows what is making this happen, but surely there is an answer!!

In talking to doctors, we have concluded that my husband has some form of parasite that has a reproductive cycle every month or so and makes him sick. It may even be working in combination with H. Pylori, which is common. We're sending off stool samples, and then will treat accordingly. Hope that helps!
