My five year old has been sick for 4 weeks now. He wakes up with a headache, neck pain in the back of his neck, belly ache, and will often vomit. If he doesn't vomit upon waking, most of the time he will at some other point in the day.
His headache will wake him up at night.
He also complains of severe belly pain.
He will be sick for 3 to 5 days and then seem to be getting better for 2 or 3, and then will get sick again. Even when he is better, he is still not well.
He says he is tired all the time.
He has had 3 rounds of bloodwork -CBC & Sed rate - all normal.
He has had an MRI - it was normal.
He had an xray of his belly, it showed he was really constipated.
I took him to a GI doctor for kids, constipation was better (thank you magnesium citrate) but he was still a bit constipated. The GI doctor says to give him miralax, which he keeps down about half the time, and if he is still sick in a month, he will do an endoscopy.
The soonest I can get him to see the neurologist is December 8th.
I am considering handcuffing myself to a chair in the neurology waiting room or something.

Then instead of wasting all your time and money on all of these other specialists, you should have his blood tested for food allergies. It's about 400.00 and is worth it's weight in gold. Trust me, this is a simple fix that western medicine won't be able to help you with.

  • Use Slippery Elm, it is very effective for constipation. It is a herb (a tree). You should be able to buy it in health food stores. It does not have harmful side effects. In the long term, you need to consider his diet. His diet should contain natural unprocessed foods, including fruit and vegetables.

  • Angiostrongyliasis (a parasitic worm) includes all the symptoms that you are describing. This is usually contracted by ingesting snails or contaminated food that carry the larvae of the parasite. With him being a 5 year old, it is very likely that he could have eaten something in the yard or another child told him to. Ask him if he remembers eating anything or see if the GI will have a stool sample analyzed. http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/a/angiostrongyliasis/symptoms.htm

What about urine tests?
