I need help! This is actually for my child. He is 13. He went dove hunting the first weekend in September with my ex husband and when he returned home, he was congested. He was out of school on the 3rd for Labor day but then did not go to school on Tuesday because he felt so bad. I got him an appt. with the Dr. for the next day. They diagnosed him with a sinus infection and starting of bronchitis (lungs sounded clear). Started him on an antibiotic, 2 different cough syrups, and mucinex. He has faithfully been taking all of his medications and not getting any better. Throughout all of this, he has not ran any fever at all. I took him back to the Dr. yesterday, they took a chest x-ray and all is clear but my son says that it feels as though someone is sitting on his chest. It hurts him really bad. He has a nasty cough, and still no fever. Still has the congestion. The musinex is not breaking anything up. Yesterday, the Dr. said that it could possibly be mono or the flu but that he was leaning more towards the flu.
I just dont quite understand... dont you run fever with the flu? My son has not ran any fever at all?
Any suggestions?
Thank you!!
Kris

  • I am not a doctor, but I am wondering if he could be having severe allergies. My sister had some symptoms like that as a kid and it turned out to be allergies causing associated asthma.

  • He did! He went dove hunting. Thank you! I took your suggestion and looked it up... not much luck though. I am stumped. The symptoms show fever which he does not and has not had, and the lungs sounding rattled. His lungs have been clear the entire time. Even his chest x-ray showed up clear... but to hear him cough... oh my, he sounds awful.... and to hear him when he talks, he is really bad congested. I am baffled! AAGGHHHHH!!!Thank you again for the suggestion! Much appreciated!

  • Did he have any bug bites? Have they checked for Lyme or Encephalitis? Encephalitis often begins as flu like symptoms. Hope you get and answer soon.

  • I kissed someone and I now have mono. I have sharp pains in my sides and abdomen and then to go along with that have killer headachs but they all only last for about 5 munites each but they are such great pains that the are almost unbarable. What can i do to get rid of this. It almost feels like i am dying. I sleep almost 24-7 and i drink so much water i have to pee almost every five munites. I can't use tylonal because I don't trust myself not to get addicted to it again. Please help me i can't hardly stand the pain any longer!!

  • Kris, did you get a satisfactory diagnosis? My situation is identical - diag of sinus infection, clear chest x ray, antibiotics, Mucinex etc. getting no better. Upper chest congestion sensation. No fever.Thank you!!

  • What are your exact symptoms? Sinus infections can last a long time, I personally read where an ENT himself stated he had to take antibiotics for 11 weeks before his sinus infection cleared up. Also have you been checked for allergies?
