Molar cut out - swelling after 8 months

I had my wisdom teeth pulled 7 months ago, and one of them needed to be cut out. I think the digging and cutting into my jaw to remove the tooth is causing a lot of swelling. My face is still enlarged 7 months later, and after what I'd call "initial swelling" it hasn't improved at all. Also, I had dental surgery above my canine and it had to cut into my face three times, but the swelling had seemed pretty regular, almost completely went away.

My doctors say that everything looks fine, and that the swelling is inexplicable phenomena that "just happens" among many patients during the healing process. A plastic surgeon did not advise surgery as the enlarged cheek is probably mostly swelling.

How can I get this swelling to go down? This is an abnormal amount of time for swelling to stick around. Any info on this would be fantastic, since the best doctors in the area aren't really helping me understand.

  • It finally came to me last night when my teeth clacking together woke me up. I think the mild irritation and larger, asymmetric jaw is from bruxism or biting, clenching, or grinding teeth during sleep. I'm going to visit the dentist for a guard and a cosmetic surgeon for some injections into the jaw. Most likely. I'll update with the dentist visit.
