Hey all -
Never had this before... three days again I was experiencing moderate back pain which I attributed to a new chair at work. Two days ago I was having increased all over pain, which I attributed to walking a great deal in my shoes with bad arch support. That night I came home with chills and a fever of 101.5. Fever appeared to break in the middle of night (at least based on how much I was sweating).

Yesterday I woke up with moderate muscle pain in most major muscles except my neck and shoulders. Pain and slight fever was present all day. Today, my body feels like I've run a marathon, once with my legs and once on my arms. It is difficult for me to grip a pen or turn a doorknob because of the fatigue in my forearms. Flexing and unflexing my fingers causes my forearms to burn. It is difficult for me to get up and down from a sitting position because of the fatigue in my legs and calves. Advil helps a bit and I haven't had a fever in over a day. No other symptoms, except poor appetite.

Do I just have a bug that settled in my muscles and nowhere else? Anything other than a heating pad for the discomfort?

I'm a 37 y/o male with normal health. I did just get back from Puerto Vallarta and had two very itchy bug bites that lingered after I got back. My muscle pain started 16 days after I got back, so I can't see it being related.

Any insight would be great... I have to go rest my hands now! :-(

  • I'd get this checked out. It could be serious. Don't neglect to mention your insect bites to the doctor. Bug bites are often the vector by which parasites, bacteria or viruses are introduced into the body. For example: fleas carry the plague, mosquitos carry malaria and West Nile Virus, and tics carry Lyme disease. So even though the bug has bitten you and you are no longer dealing with that, it may have introduced something you don't want in your body into you. A doctor will want to do a blood work up to see if you have something infectious.
