minty taste

I have had the minty taste in my mouth and sometimes in my throat for over 6 months now. It started with a trip to the dentist. Half my tongue was frozen for 5 days. When the freezing subsided this minty taste took over that half the tongue and then spread to the rest of my mouth.
I was diagnosed with non erosive reflux. I went on the gerd diet and took meds for over 4 and a half months. No change. I went to go see a burning mouth syndrome specialist, it was ruled out because bms typically affects only the roof of the mouth, not the gums or throat.
I have since determined that sugar is what really makes it burn. If I eliminate sugar from my diet the burning mint taste is just a mild sugary slop that will occasionally sting. Saturated fats and multi grain bread also irritate the condition.

Recently I have seen another doctor and we are looking at the possibility that it might be candida. I have tried 2 different medications but they haven't worked either, although the things which irritate the condition seem to be consistent with the irritants of candida.
After reading the many postings on this site I'm not sure if we all have exactly the same thing but it seems as though many of us do. I sure hope we find an answer soon.

  • I am having the same symptons since 3 months ago and they are trying me with Aciclovir and a gel called ODDENT, as if these was estomatitis.I had these year a ferula put on my mouth for Atemporal jaw syndrome. I suspended it, and one month later, this started.I also went to the neurologyst because of the numbness in the hands and they replaced two cervical disks and the numbness continues. It has not helped. I have pain in all my fingers plus the mynty taste in my mouth. I feel numbness in all my fingers and nerve terminationswhich would include my tongue. Did you get another diagnosis? I see your article was posted 3 years ago. How are you feeling now?Clara AvilaSeptember 16,2013

  • I seem to be having this minty taste too since 3 months ago. the neurologist discarded with an mri the nerves, the dermatologist says it is stomatitis. I was given Aciclovir for 8 days and an oral gel for a month and it is the same.I see your article was posted 3 years ago. Have you gotten another diagnosis. I also feel numbness in my terminal fingers and toes. and on my tongue. What I discovered with these is that i had stenosis on my cervicals, so they replaced me two disks C4-C5 and C5-C6 but I still have the numbness in my fingers. When I get a little cut in my fingers, the numbness turns to pain in my10 forefingers. What specialist should i visit?September 16, 2013
