Hi, I have currently been suffering from the following symtoms:

- Red dotted rash on the inside of one of my elbows (by my forearm)
-painful headaches
-Sometimes when there is bright light I have to close my eyes due to them watering excessivly and hurting - this can go on for 20 minutes before I can handle light again.
-Very tired
-Not hungry
-Unable to sleep dispite tiredness

Could this be meningitis? Or something else?

Please help,

  • There is of course a possibilty, have u been vaccinated?and what kind of age group?are you at uni? however i had glandular fever and i had very similar symptoms except obviously very swollen glands, therefore sore throat. However, bearing this in mind don't panic meningitis is quite rare, and these symptoms could be caused by stress, being run down and easily curable causes.

  • The could be a bacterial infection. Sensitivity to light, insomnia, headaches and fatigue are all symtpoms. I have seen a rash with dots located on joints (mainly the elbow) that was due to bacteria. Bartonella henselae can be contracted from a cat (cat scratch fever) a dog, or a tick. Ticks also transmit Lyme and some people also get a rash with this. Blood tests are poor for these bacterial infections so you need a good doctor who can recognize the symptoms. Look at a list of symptoms at canlyme.com and see if you are having other symptoms. Antibiotics are needed to treat bacterial infections.

  • Another good place to learn about Lyme and other bacterial infections is www.lymenet.org. Both websites have a support forum and you can ask your questions there. Information about treatment can also be found there.
