Hi. I am a 43 year old female. I had a minor stomach surgery in July. Woke up the next day with massive edema- 25 pounds in one day. It's only gotten worse since then, and it has been 3 months. It's non pitting edema, throughout my body. I've seen a rheumatologist, endocrinologist, Primary, Gastroenterologist, and none of them can figure out what is wrong.
I think I might have Hypervolemia, caused by IV fluid overload from the surgery. What area of specialty should I see for this condition? I can't hear another doctor say "it will just take time."
I've read some articles, but none indicate what type of doctor. Please help!!!!

You might want to see a NATUROPATH. It really sounds like the doctors are dismissing you because it COULD be related to the surgery and they do not want to deal with someone else's complications. A good naturopathy, however, could point you in the right direction... What exactly is your SURGEON SAYING...???

"Go to the ER if you are having problems." Arghhhhh!!!!!

Sounds like he is trying to distance himself/herself and sounds like someone that you don't particularly want to see again! I'm with Monster, get some tests done because this sounds like it is directly related... Also, request the copies of everything so you can have them for yourself!

Please help!!!!I am a 37 year old female after life-saving surgery after hemorrage issues have ended up with the same. I'm 99% positive that it is due to hypervolemia. They gave me 8 bags of IV fluids within 24 hours as well as 4 bags of blood and a bag of plasma. My output was maybe 3 ounces during that time. When the nurse (still being trained, but treating me without supervision) went to flush my IV (which was not infusing because I was full) it threw me into Congestive Heart Failure. For an hour and a half my fiance helplessly watched me struggle to breath. I had severe chest pain and kept setting off the monitors because my heart would stop beating or my resp would drop to 0. They only came into the room 3 times for less than 2 minutes each time during that entire episode. Long story short - I am left with severe Edema. :/ I have an appointment at the Cardiologist on Thursday. My family doctor only told me it was one of two things. Heart or Kidneys (he tested my kidneys and they are OK). He has me on Maxzide at the moment. All I can say is pray for me and I'll pray for you. **I also pray that your hospital is not government funded. Mine was, even though I had Private insurance, and they put a cap on punitive damages, so now no attorney wants to take my case, even though it is valid.
