My son had a mass under his chin that we noticed 3 weeks ago. His chin swelled very large and we took him to the doctor. They did a CT scan and it showed swollen lymphnodes under his chin and smaller but swollen up by his ears. He received 7 days of IV antibiotics in the hospital and lots of blood tests. The "soft" "puffy" swelling went away after the first day but the mass did not change. All blood test came back clear. His white count was borderline low. He had a biopsy and the ENT removed a lymph node. He said that it was really not swollen very much but that the tissue around it was "irritated and sticky". The biopsy showed no cancer. The mass is still there and is a little larger than last week. The ENT has said that he has never seen a mass like that which did not react to the antibiotics. He said that a virus is the only logical conclusion he can think of and that we should let it sit for another 4 weeks and see what happens. I am not comfortable with letting it wait because it seems to be growing. Our son is 13 (14 next month) and I don't want to over react but don't want to wait if this is something more serious than a virus. Any advise would be appreciated.
