Lower Leg Coldness,Pain, Swelling, and Numbness??

What could this be??????

These are my symptoms........
Chronic coldness in my lower right leg from my knee down mostly in my foot.
Recently my ankle started swelling slightly on the outside where my ankle bone sticks out a little
Recently I've had ankle pain on days when It's cold for long periods of time
Sometimes the muscles get very sore from being cold all day and I feel like my leg is recovering from leg cramps
Sometimes when I sit on the floor my foot curls up and almost locks, but It comes out of it as soon as I get up.

I've had back x-rays and have no slipped disks, no pinched nerves, and nothing that would cause only one leg to go cold and semi-numb.

I had foot and ankle x-rays that are clear and supposably nothing is broken or bruised. They do think I have planters faschitis, but they are CERTAIN that the fashia will in NO WAY cause the numbness I'm describing

I have been tested for diabetes and it's negative

I don't smoke, have high blood pressure, or heart problems.

I have had some sort of blood test for MS that came back negative, but at this point I'm wondering how accurate that test was.

Yesterday I had a vascular test and my circulation is fine! I am shocked by this because I was certain with the coldness and numbness that my circulation was defintitely connected.

I passed all of the physical neurology tests. I am scheduled for a EMG on Dec. 1st but my neurologist is certain that this test will come back normal.

The dr's seem baffled by this. After all what causes constant coldness in just one leg from the knee down?

If I don't get a diagnosis soon I'm afraid it will get to the point where the pain will make it very hard for me to walk!!

Any ideas on what might be going on?

  • Hmm, do you have a recent injury in that leg that just healed? It sounds kind of like RSD, if everything else has been ruled out.

  • No injury that I know of. I have fallen several times over the past couple of years which is NOT typical for me. I usually have very good balance, but I didn't sustain any injuries or have any pain from those falls. I'm at a loss because my symptoms are so unusual. ~~Angie~~

  • A lot of your symptoms sound like mine. Fortunately you do not have the severe pain on top of the other things I have. I ended up being diagnosed with small fiber peripheral neuropathy.

  • Wow I had forgotten I had even posted here until I got another reply lol!! I had gotten so sick for a while that I was rushed to the ER a couple of times. Come to find out I have Celiac Disease. YUP that's right Celiac Disease. It stinks but everything makes sence now and it's such a relief to know that I'm finally feeling better. It's unbelievable to go from major chronic depression and pain to pain free happiness for once in I can't remember how long. If anyone would like to know more about Celiac Disease just drop me an e-mail!!
