Wonder if anyone can help me out here, my mum has been told her sodium level is low, her symptoms are that she is twitching, very drowsy, and has become very confused.
She has been in the hospital for 10 weeks following a failed hip operation, had various infections including mrsa.
Just wondering if anybody could shed any light on when these symptoms will finally dissapear?
Thanks in advance...

  • Hi, I don't know if your situation is similar to ours. My mother was hospitalized multiple times in 2006 because of low sodium levels. Until then, I was unaware how serious this condition could be. The doctors thought it was due to her drinking too much water, which wasn't something that could be controlled in the assisted living facility where she resides. In one of her hospital stays, she was seen by an endocrinologist. That doctor suggested a medication (Demeclocycline HCL 150MG). Since my mother has been taking this medication, she has not been hospitalized once for low sodium. Her levels are lower than average, but she has stabilized.

Many thanks for your reply. Its now 14 weeks that my mum has been hospitalised, her sodium level has been stabilised and is now at a reasonable level,we have been told today that she is suffering from celiac. This on top of the Porphiria is becoming very complicated indeed.Would be interested to hear from anyone who suffers from any of these conditions. So, 14 weeks in the hospital with a broken hip,3 operations,9 different wards, mrsa, c.diff, chest infection, urine infection, pnumonia, anemia.
