My daughter is 22 years old. She is fine one moment. And then in a matter of seconds, the smallest little thing will "set her off." She will yell & scream, slam doors, throw things, etc. It happens over something that isn't even important. This happens several times a day. I am so tired of it. I have gotten to the point where I don't even want to be around her. I have tried sitting down & talking with her, for hours at a time sometimes, about the issue that "set her off." But then later that day -- or the next day, the same thing happens again. It disrupts our whole household. She has very low self-esteem. And she doesn't have many friends at all. She seems unhappy most of the time. I have talked to her about getting some help. But she says nothing is wrong with her. I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

  • Women sometimes go through rages with hormonal disruptions. I know she is young and not menopausal but you often hear of rage around menopause time...I am not suggesting this, but only as a way to explain what ovarian hormones can do. She may want to get blood work for ovarian hormones and get a thorough GYN check up. Also, it certainly sounds like she may be suffering from depression .....do you think? There may be things going on in her life that you are unaware of and she is having trouble coping. She may need some help with antidepresents and I went through this with my mother in law and recovery took a while, but she is SOOOO much better with the professional help she received and the medication. If you think so and get her at least to go to the GYN, perhaps you can at least give the GYN a heads up on this and perhaps he/she can bring it up...if it is difficult for you to do so. And lastly, is she perhaps taking any drugs, legal or illegal? Steriods or something else? You may want to talk about this to her, or people who know her. Joan
