I have had numbness and pain in my left leg for over 6 months now. Went to the doctor and had an XRAY and lower lumbar MRI and they said they have no idea why. THe numbness and pain has now started to spread to my left arm. I have to sleep in the recliner as it is much worse when I try to lay down. I have also started getting dizzy in the last couple of weeks. Should I be concerned and what should I do? I am only 38 and don't want this problem the rest of my life???

  • I have the same thing, but it is getting worse. Do you have any other symptoms? Mine started about a year and a half ago, and my lower back was in a lot of pain as well. for some time I could barely walk. But it's strange because it comes and goes. Sometimes I get painful, excrutiating attacks in my left leg and lower back. Last year I had an MRI of my spine and found I have a very small hernia between T4 and T5, lower back. But this small hernia is 99% not something to cause so much pain. Got anti-inflammatories, pain meds, and a small flexible waist brace and it helped my back and leg. The pain comes and goes. I get chest pain that radiates down to the left arm as well, and occassional burning sensation in my hand that makes it too painful to put in water for about 10 or 20 minutes, then it subsides. This could be carpel tunnel syndrome, but for now I am mainly concerned about my leg and back. The reason being I had another attack last week, I was in tears because of the pain. Hospitalized for 2 days was on pain meds (4000mg of paracetamol / day + opioids + anti inflammatory) and now I am waiting to do my MRI on my back and pelvis once again. NEver did a pelvis MRI so I am interested to see what the result might be. The reason I am not getting a leg MRI is because I have pain in my back, but I also have a cold, wet sensation a few times a day- like just the left leg of my jeans are wet with cold water, or my back. Usually those things are nerve related, and thus the MRI of my back. So far from the CT scan my small hernia seems to not have changed. I am really stressed out as to what is causing me all of this. It is scary, because I have lost a little strength in my left leg as well- my toe cannot pull back like the right one can, cannot lift up my leg straight under the same weight that my right leg can, and I have been tripping because I am not lifting my leg high enough on a step. I am 23years old. I think you should try consulting another doctor.
