I have a cyst on my left ovary (have had it for about 5 years with no pain, discomfort etc).
For about the last 6 months, I have felt pressure in my left abdomen off and on.
The discomfort and freuqenucy grew and now it hurts- painful to where I have to take IBprofun (but I HATE meds!)

Went to OBGYN and was told it was nothing. Take 800mg of ibprofun and watch the pain.

I've watched- it hurts!!!

Anyone else have these symptoms or can help me with any ideas?
Here is some info to help.
Female
28
5 kids (4 pregnancies)
recent tubual (tube tied in June 2007)
overweight by about 80 lbs.

Symptoms:
pressure in left abdomen
pain in left hip area
no fever
no diahrea
no constipation
pain travels down left leg sometimes
not painful when pressure applied, but uncomfortable
my husband and I feel a bump ON my hip bone area- but doctor could not

Thanks for the help!

  • Hiya.Firstly could you tell me - do you have any back pain? Where is this hip pain exactly - is it on the outer surface of the hip, near the bony bit, or deep in the hip on the inner thigh? You say the pain sometimes goes downwards? Do you mean across your buttock, or down the back of your leg? Is there any numbness/unusual sensation anywhere? Please describe the pain - is it sharp/tingling/dull/aching/throbbing?How bad is it - 10 being the worst ever pain you have experienced? Is it there all the time or only some of the time?Is it worse at any particular time of day?Is it made worse by lifting/coughing/bearing down or when you pick up your kids?Is your pain related to your periods? Is it worse at any particular time of your cycle? Please let me know!

  • If you also have pain after sex, it might be pelvic congestion syndrome with incompetent valves in the ovarian veins.

  • I was thinking the same "pelvic congestion syndrome"I think an MRI or CT scan should pick it up, have you had either of these tests ?If your current gyno is no help move on to another until you get some answers.Best of luck :) Samantha http://www.undiagnosedillness.org

  • If the pain is in your groin area,it could be related to your back pain by referred pain.IS the back pain near your hip?If so it could be sacroiliac pain with referral.

  • I was thinking more along the lines of a radiculopathy due to disc prolapse. We'll have to wait and see ;)

  • Do you mean disc herniation?I guess that's possible,too.

  • do you have any back pain? No.Where is this hip pain exactly? near the bony bit, right on the front of the boneYou say the pain sometimes goes downwards? Do you mean across your buttock, or down the back of your leg? Is there any numbness/unusual sensation anywhere? Pain goes down the front and side of legPlease describe the pain - is it sharp/tingling/dull/aching/throbbing? Almost always a dull pain. Sometime it is a sharp hard pain like someone is pushing really ******n hip. I have not found any certain activities that increase pain... it is random. How bad is it - 10 being the worst ever pain you have experienced? About a 7 (I gave birth natrually to first child! LOL) Seriously though, about a 7. I hate meds and do take Ibprofin for pain when I can't stand the pain any longer! Is it there all the time or only some of the time? MOST of the time. Is it worse at any particular time of day? Varying, but the worse pain I feel is in the evening. Is it made worse by lifting/coughing/bearing down or when you pick up your kids? That doesn't seem to affect it. I have 21 month old twins who I pick up and hold daily (sometimes both at same time) but some days I hurt worse than others... same days it is just a dull ache.Is your pain related to your periods? Is it worse at any particular time of your cycle? Not that I have noticed. I do have painful cramps (I always have.) Normally 1-2 days before starting and then through my period, but the cramps don't seem any worse then before this other pain arrived.Pain after sex? No. CT scan or MRI? No. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*UPDATE: 3/6/09 I went to another Primary Physican~ Doctor says that my hip is inflamed. Took Xrays, they shown nothing of concern. She put me on an anti-inflamitory med called Meloxicam. Said to take 1Xday as needed for next 2-3 weeks. Return if still bothersome and we will try physical therepy. ???? Guess we will see what happens!?!?P.S. I read the side effects and am debating what is worse- This pain or the pain I can get from the side effects??!?!?! Any suggestions with this med? Meloxicam 15mg 1X dayTHX :)

  • Wonder if your hip issue is resolved? I am in a seemingly similar situation right now. Did you take the meds? If so, did they help? Has your discomfort subsided?

  • In 2002 as a survivor of stage 1 Ovarian Cancer with an unusual initial symptom of spotting, my GYN doctor immediately ordered an ultrasound of the pelvic area, which indicated a tumor of some kind. Next he immediately ordered the CA125 blood test, which showed an extremely high number. Within 2 weeks, I had surgery, followed by chemo treatments. Stomach pain & bloating, usual symptoms for Ovarian Cancer, appeared just a few days before surgery. My tumor was growing very quickly. If all my doctors hadn't moved quickly, my outcome would have been very different. My recommendation to all women experiencing any kind of questionable stomach pain is to see your GYN doctor & have him/her order the pelvic ultrasound, followed by the CA125 blood test, if necessary, so an Ovarian Cancer diagnosis can be eliminated. I have a cyst on my left ovary (have had it for about 5 years with no pain, discomfort etc). For about the last 6 months, I have felt pressure in my left abdomen off and on.The discomfort and freuqenucy grew and now it hurts- painful to where I have to take IBprofun (but I HATE meds!)Went to OBGYN and was told it was nothing.
