What would cause left lower abdominal pain (which feels like ovary) with pain in my lower back as well. The pain is intermittent that comes and goes. Any thoughts?

  • Diverticulosis. And probably other colon or bowel problems.

  • Thank you Beth, but I have never had any GI problems at all. It began with my ovulation this month, but it was strange that my back hurt also last night. I am not sure if this changes your analysis, but let me know if it does. Thanks, Wendy

  • This can be a sign of a lot of things, some of them very serious. I would have it checked out.

  • I know you say you have had no GI problems, neither did I until I woke up one morning in severe pain, called 911, and spent 5 days in the hospital for diverticulitis. So I would not discount something new. But I thought the statement below of interest. I do think you should see a doctor to find your answer to rule out anything serious. :)"There are a few things in your left lower quadrant that can cause pain. About the only anatomic structure here are your colon, kidney drainage system and ovary (in women). Ovarian pain is common in the middle of your cycle as the ovary ruptures a follicular cyst prepatory to expelling an "egg". In young women this is the most common cause for this type of pain, although any process involving your ovary or tube can cause this. Second would be inflammation or spasm of the colon, usually caused by diverticuli. These are usually seen after age 40, but occasionally earlier. Third would be a kidney stone or inflammation of the tube between the kidney and the bladder called the ureter." http://www.druginfonet.com/linebrk.jpg

I am not sure if this changes your analysis, but let me know if it does. Thanks, Wendy Please talk with your gyno and get a lower abdominal ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound. This sounds like an ovarian cyst - typically pain is during ovulation. A cyst can cause back pain AND severe bloating and digestive problems. I would have this ruled out. Typically if you notice bloating that gets worse as the day progresses (I felt like I was 5 months pregnant at times when I had a 7 cm cyst in my left ovary) - then it is very possible you have a cyst. Diverticulitis is also possible, but I would think the pain would be more severe and acute. Best wishesDOM

  • Thank you all very much. I will go in. We all know how difficult it is to make time for ourselves, but when it's time, it's time. :)

  • Did you ever find at resolve it this?I am have been having the same symptoms for two weeks.I have had a CT, vaginal ultrasound, ultrasound, urine test, blood and urine pregnancy test, and other blood tests. So far nothing. The pain is mostly in my lower left abdominal, but sometime sharp pain the the lower left. It is also like a burning pain on the left side, with sometimes sharp pains. Sometimes the goes all the way down my leg.First the diagnosis was maybe I was pregnant or had the flu.... I don't think people would want to get pregnant if it hurt this bad for a whole week and I have been pregnant before and implantation didn't feel like this. But I went home and rested all weekend. The pain was still there so on Monday and Tuesday I was at the doctors and they were running test, after everything came back negative, I was giving laxatives and rushed out the door! After telling them I am pooping just fine, everyday! uggggg So now its almost a week later and I am still in pain!

Went to Doctor about six weeks ago and took all the blood test available. STD's the works. All came back negative. Went to the untrasound internal and external. They stated I could have had a cist that burst but didn't really no and it was of no concern. The pain is continual mostly on my left side. Ive taken Milk of Magnesas and eliminated everything in my body. But the pain wont go away, and is shooting down my left leg. Even touching the skin on my left hurts. I'm 46. Any advise I should tell the doc, I'm thinking about going to the emergency room. I don't think the doctors know what it is.
