I just got a phone call telling me that my 24hr cortisol urine test needs to be redone (they were also testing for Catecholamines). When i asked why, I got told they think no acid was in the bottle to which I added the urine too.

I know for fact that there was acid in that bottle and it looked to be about the right amount as Ive had several of these tests done before. (my cortisol level is just out of normal range and low). Its only me in my house and hence i know that bottle was never open and spilt, I put the lid back on super tight when i took it into the doctors to get sent to the lab. So now im wondering what on earth have they probably found to be thinking that there was no acid in the urine container?????

Have they stuffed up the test on their end and used this as an excuse?? or is it likely I have extremely abnormal test results that they arent believing from first test so want it redone?????

Would Addisons disease make a test result look like possibly no acid was added?? or something to do with Catecholamines??

thanks if anyone can respond

  • I rang the lab back to talk to them some more about it and this time was told there was acid in the bottle with sample (so was told something completely different this time.. that makes more sense) but the acid was not the needed amount in it. They then appologised due to someones obvious error at getting the sealed containers prepared for these samples wrong. Also found out those two tests... were meant to have seperate 24 hr sample bottles. (that was a clinic mistake as they didnt have a clue of that). Anyway... so now i have to do two different 24 hr collections. (its never ending... i always seem to be doing tests.. usually im sent for the wrong tests, but this one is reasonable).

  • I was just wondering what nation you live in.Here in the U.S. our healt care system is just a complete and utter shambles. If you want choice health care you better have cash galore.I think our doctors are restrained to do medical tests as by the insurance company. What a crock of you know what!

  • Some 24 hour tests require the urine to be acidic and some do not. They probably gave you the regular jug to use instead of the one with acid in it. Some tests more acid can be added after the sample is received. Also some tests require the urine to be kept at 2 to 6 degrees C. I know its a pain to collect urine again, but at least maybe they will get all their ducks in a row this time.
