Hi, I have a knee injury, and I'm struggling to get answers from my dr.
I'm a 25 yr old female, having trouble with my right knee. I was kneeling when the injury happened, there was a loud crack and I could not straighten my leg afterward. I have had swelling ever since and varying amounts of pain, from mild soreness to most recently extreme pain, making it difficult to walk, drive, sleep etc.
I have had x-rays, an MRI and an ultra-sound as recommended by the orthopedic dr., and all tests have come back showing no structural damage. how can this be?
The swelling has progressed down my leg into my ankle, but not my in my foot and above my knee well into my quad. the swelling is noticeable even while wearing pants. there is swelling on the outside, of my right knee as well as a golf ball sized pocket of swelling on the inside. the area on the outside is very tender to the touch and slightly but not badly discolored.
I have also had a cortisone shot in this swollen area on the outside of my leg, which has been fairly ineffective.
I've had some range of motion tests done that would seem to indicate a torn meniscus but this was ruled out by my dr.
All of this has taken place in the last 4 to 6 weeks, with no relief, not even after taking pain killers.
Does anyone have any ideas of what's going on here? It is extremely frustrating to be told by the dr. that in his opinion, I do not have any tears, clots or other damage, but I still have pain, swelling and trouble sleeping because of it. I need to know what's going on and/or how to fix it.
My next move is to get a second opinion but in the meantime, any decent advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
