I have brought this up to drs before and they all tell me its just because I'm nursing my daughter but seriously! She's almost 2 and we've cut back to once a day now. My weight has just kept going down. I'm 5`6 and I barely weigh 100lbs. My eatting habbits aren't fantastic but for the most part I think that I eat pretty well. When I told the dr last time I was at like 110lbs about 8 months ago or so. Its been a pretty slow decline in the weight loss but I'm still loosing. They said that once I stopped nursing it would go back and that 110ish (possibly lower-it was a while ago)was fine for my height. I even pointed out the chart that they had in the room saying that low weight for a woman of 5`6 is 115lbs. They still didn't care!
Now I have a very hard time staying warm unless I'm asleep in my bed with heavy-warm blankets wrapped over me. The cold seems to come from my core rather than my extremities in. As soon as I start to get cold my entire body starts shaking like its convulsing or something. It hurts so bad!
We unfortunately don't have insureance right now (we're working on getting it again) so I really can't go to a dr just yet but seriously I think something is wrong with me!
Is there anything anyone can suggest or anything I can research for when I do get to see a dr?

  • There are so so many different problems which can cause weight loss (feeling cold can just go along with being underweight), that asking a question like this isnt going to help you at all and if anything could just end up making you worry about something extremely serious. It could be anything from just a nutritional issue to cancer and a heap of things in between eg thyriod issues etc. You really need to find a good doctor who will listen and get some tests done. If you are that seriously worried about your weight, i dont understand why you are still breastfeeding even if it is only once a day.

  • Your inability to regulate your temperature and weight loss could be a result of a dramatic increase in Metabolism. I would look up Hyperthyroidism, or graves disease, and see if that matches your symptoms. It's surprisingly common.Although, I would need to say that nursing does take a substantial amount of energy on its own and does mess with your hormones, but that is generally limited to messing with progesterone and estrogen. From what I recall Progesterone is thermogenic.. So you shouldn't be getting cold, unless something else is going on.

  • Until you can get insurance it wouldn't hurt to take iron in case you have iron deficiency anemia, but even if the iron helps(Which can take 10-14 days),you still need to find out what caused it.
