I'm 25 years old and I've been having joint pain for almost three months now. It all started with pain on my right knee, the my left anckle, then my left knee... and right now I feel pain in most of my joints. The pain and stiffness increases around a week before my period starts (I've always had abdominal pain during these days, but never joint pain) and I keep felling the pain after the period is gone. I lost around 10 pounds last month without excersing much and I'm not dieting.

I went to a rheumatologist, and had a lot of lab/exams but everything was negative. I don't have RA neither a virus, nor Hepatitis. The tested me for gout, lyme disease and a lot of other diseases but everything was negative. My ANA was positive high but the doctor said that it's significatively enough to say that I have lupus. I'm also a little anemic according to the exams.

They did R-rays of my chest, fingers, knees, anckle and hips. Everything looked good except one x-ray from my hips that looks kind of weird and the doctor said that she thinks it's nothing but she was going to ask an expert in radiology... she is currently on vacation so I'm currently waiting.

Does anyone know of any other rare disease that causes joint pain? My father was diagnosed with thalassemia, not sure if this is something related to joint pain.

Please advice, thanks!

  • Did you tell the doctor about your father's thalassemia diagnosis? It can run in families. Several patients self-report joint pain with their thalassemia here: http://www.thalassemiapatientsandfriends.com/index.php?topic=143.msg706;highlight=joint+pains+l1 Hope this helps you.

  • Hey there. Have you been tested for Celiac? Your symptoms are in sync with Celiac, anemia, joint pain, weight loss.... I would get a Celiac panel of you haven't already. Watch the video with Dr. Green on this blog, and learn more about Celiac.....this may resonate with how your're feeling. Hope you get better soon!http://celiacsinthehouse.blogspot.com/2009/03/dr-peter-green-and-elizabeth-hasselbeck.html
