I have an infection at the site of a recent IV. I was hit by a car and have two legs in a cast so I cannot get to a doctor. I have no health insurance. I have a bottle of 500 mg amoxicillin capsules and need to know what the therapeutic dosage would be per day for a man of 225 lbs.

  • While that may be a correct dosage for amoxicillin, you do not know whats causing the infection, it may be something that is not covered by amoxicillin. I would recommend (I know you have no insurance) seeing a doctor if it doesn't get better or go away within 5 to 7 days. Also, if you don't have enough antibiotic for at least 7 days and do not take it regularly, you may be breeding a superinfection.

  • I agree with Rebatjst2, please don't self medicate with antibiotics. You need to find someone to help you get this checked and please do this soon...you could end up with sepsis (very dangerous, and hopefully this won't happen) Best wishesDOM
