I need help. My head, underarms and underneath my breast have been itching from months. I went to the Dr. and he wants to put me on some anxiety medicine (which I am already taking) for the itch. It seems like I am clawing my skin off. I have already went through everthing in my house to see if I had changed anything that would make me do this. It is miserable. Can anyone help me?

  • I have been going through the same thing. I first started itching last August. At the worst point it would itch all day, then progressivley get worse throughout the day, at 6-7pm until I got home at 10 I would be itching perfusely. It was ***l. It started at my head and went down my body to my feet and then just itch all over. One night I decided to use skin so soft, that was a big mistake, it was like putting gas on a fire. I screamed and I could not scratch because it made it worse, I had welts from scratching so bad. What ever you do do not use skin so soft. Then I went to the doctor the next day and I cried in their office. They said I was stressed and allergic to something so I changed my regime and they put me on prednizone (one week) and then zyrtec, zyrtec made me stop itching. Recently the itching has came back because I ran out of my year perscription of zyrtec, I decided to go to a dermatoloist. They could not nail it down but they gave me a steriod shot and a new prescription, and of course the zyrtec prescription. I have not got the new prescription filled yet to know how it works. The steriod shot helped so far, I went wednesday to see the dermatologist, the steriod shot is a long term thing. I am still itching a little, not as much. I feel like the dermatologist will help me, he seems to know quite a bit more about itchy skin than my family doctor. Good luck, let me know if they give you a name to this itchness.

Hello Kim;My daughter had that once and it went on for over a year believe it or not then after we moved she never had it again! We went to ER and visited doctor(S) but all to no avail then finally was referred to a dermatologist. She asked a few questions and started her on "Zyrtec," all I could say a couple hours after her taking this was; "YES, there is a GOD!" We tried Benadryl and many other name brand prescription medications possibly five other kinds and none worked but the Zyrtec, after she got that going we never had to change it, worked the first time and every time there after. Ok, now that I've sold you on Zyrtec :), the reason? Well, I'm sure if you have read about this at all there are so many reasons as to why, that it could take sometime to solve or figure it all out and you could be completely healed by then! It could be anything from food allergy to dust particles to cancer. My dad had severe itching and it ended up being bone cancer but he also had severe pain with it and many other underlying conditions so I really doubt that's the problem. My suggestion? Go see a dermatologist ask for some Zyrtec and go get a good nights rest ~

  • If you don't want to go to the vet, why won't you try those medicated shampoos that help relieve dry itchy skin. it's kind of expensive, but it might work. but if it continues after you try to treat your dog consider taking your dog to the vet in case it becomes worse and it gets expensive.
