I have been having an illness since December 2008. It began with vomiting and being nausea. I would go maybe a few days without being nausea but it would come back. It has slowly progressed and has been getting worse. I started hurting in my lower right rib area towards the center of my chest just above my stomach, especially after I ate. I would also get nausea and sometimes vomit after I ate. Again I would have the pain but then it would go away for a day or two. Now its everyday no matter what I eat or even if I don’t eat. They have done an ultrasound, ct scan which came back normal. Then they sent me for a endoscopy and colonoscopy which also came back fine. They finally sent me for a hida scan. It came back saying that my gallbladder was working at 40%. I went to see a surgeon and he states that 40% is a gray area. But with my symptoms and the fact that my scopes came back fine he wants to go ahead and remove the gallbladder but can not be 100% sure that that is what it is.
I am scared to death that they are going to remove my gallbladder and its not going to fix the issue. A little voice in my head says what if its not. I don’t want to be cut on if its not going to resolve the issue but I don’t know what else it can be. I have read on some places that 40% is abnormal and others saying 30% is abnormal. I know I cant take being sick anymore. I have travel plans in march and don’t want to get sick on the trip and have to be rushed to the hospital. I did go to the ER on Saturday and the doctor there said it wasn’t infected but that it needs to come out. Anyone else been thru this? Are the chances high that it is my gallbladder?
My family doctor, ER doctor and GI doctor all thinks it sounds like my gallbladder but cant be 100%, that is what concerns me. Thanks!!
