Hi I'm a 33yr old mother of 2, back in Dec 05 I went to my dr. complaining of dizziness and a pain in my lower left side. He did all the blood tests and gave me an rx for the dizziness, and mentioned that the pain in my side was not related but did nothing else. Since then I've gone to him about 5 more times complaining mainly of the pain in my abdomin( this pain happens off and on, and he said if it was anything serious it would be a constant pain) then he did several internals but has found nothing and the last visit implied that it probably is in my head. Well now the pain is still there along with bloating, gas and sometimes back pain. The thought of going back to him makes me sick to my stomach...but of course at my last visit he said he would be happy to see me again, but oddly enough I think he was patronizing me. Does anyone have a suggestion? Could this be something as serious as cancer, or could it really be in my head?

  • ask for a vaginal ultrasound. does the pain occur around your period or all the time? MUCH more likely that it is an ovarian cyst than cancer, so i wouldnt worry, but do check it out.

  • Pain should not be dismissed in patients.Docors like to tell patients the problem is in their heads whenever they can't diagnose you. But is your doctor qualified to make that psychiatric assessment? Probably not. You need a new doctor. Don't give up before you have an answer you are satisfied with.

  • Hi thanks for your responses, it's nice to hear from others that its probably not in my head. No the pain doesn't occur just around my period, it gets worse about a week or so before but when I'm actually having my period it feels better (oddly enough).

  • Ovarian cysts can cause pain, cramping, severe bloating and bowel troubles...usually in between cycles when you are ovulating. Often there is relief once period starts. I agree with the other poster that this could be your problem, and a vaginal ultrasound will diagnose it. And, get another doctor! Any doctor who would talk to me like that would be out of my life...they need to show respect and LISTEN! A good helpful relief remedy for cysts is to take some cold-processed castor oil and rub on the area, cover with a plastic bag, and cover this with a towel. Use moist heat on top of that (hot water bottle or something you microwave would work). Lie down and relax for 30-60 mins. This is really helpful for the pain, and is known to help soften cysts. Good for fibrocystic breasts and liver pain as well. Best wishesDOM

  • I am a gyn/oncology nurse of 15 years. The first thing I would do is change doctors. Get a second opinion. Ask for a CA-125 and a pelvic sonogram. Generally, with ovarian cancer, it goes undiagnosed until the patient has progressive disease, unless a patient is persistant with the doctor. The symptoms you list could be symptoms of many female problems, such as a cyst. There is no reason to continue seeing a doctor that makes you feel uncertain. Ask friends for referrals. At your age, a doctor may not suggest CA-125 tests, but you can always initiate the request. It is a tumor marker that indicates an ovarian abnormality, esp. cancer. However, it CAN be elevated for other symptoms, so ovarian cancer CAN NOT be diagnosed with this test alone. The only way to ease you mind and get rid of fear is to find comfort in a doctor that is willing to listen and not judge.

  • These questions may seem odd- but here goes. In Chinese Medicine all cysts, tumors are are PHLEGM. Not in the Western medical sense- NOT MUCOUS, etc. PHLEGM IS MUCH DEEPER IN THE SENSE THAT IT IS QI (motive Life force) and/or blood CONGEALED due to COLD. It feels BETTER w/ HEAT??? DO YOU CRAVE SALTY FOOD?? All food and herbs have an ENERGETIC TEMPERATURE and that tells us what they are useful for. SALT is HARD and COLD and therefore is used to BREAK UP NODULES or (it's emotional component is "to soften hardness in one's body or heart". If you ever have used MAGNESIUM SULFATE (EPSOLM SALTS), That is a good example of what I mean. Used in a hot bath, EPSOM SALTS soften and sooth stiff muscles. Used INTERNALLY, a spoonful of EPSOM SALT in a glass of water--20 minutese later CONSTIPATION TURNS TO LOOSE STOOLS!!!;) This is the NATURE (energy) and USAGE of SALTS. So, you probably have CYSTS and SALT (best type is Dead Sea salts) is going to HELP BREAK UP NODULES (masses). There are also many powerful Chinese Herbs that their GYNs use to DISSOLVE cysts, tumors BOTH CANCEROUS AND NON CANCEROUS. Do you crave salts, or sour things (LIVER-toxins)?Sour flavor "astringes" and rids toxins. I ask this because I myself was craving SALT AND DRINKING PICKLE JUICE AND STRANGE STUFF TIL I LEARNED THE CHINESE MEDICINE CONNECTIONS AND IT MADE SENSE!!! I wasn't crazy- just deficient and my body was trying to cure itself naturally! I WAS DIAGNOSED 3 YEARS AGO BY AN "MD" w/ ovarian cysts and multiple uterine fibroids. SCARY! I am using the Chinese methods to rebalance my body and mind and HEART, and am feeling BETTER and STRONGER all the time!!! I take Chinese Herbs and receive acupuncture (I'm a student there now) and can definetely say IT HAS HELPED. I can't wait to be licensed and trained to help others get WELL!!! This is a totally foreign way of looking at the body- but after a few thousand years- their success rate is quite impressive and the medicine itself is balancing and rejuvinating! It's a medicine rooted in nature and practised with Integrity not with PROFIT as the bottom line...Best wishes in Health~~

  • it would be a good idea for you to do a search on the conditions listed below and see if the sysmptoms match yours, then bring a copy to your doctor and ask him to rule them out. if he treats you like your silly-FIRE HIM! there are plenty of other doctors out there, and while it could be something minor like an ovarian cyst- if not taken serioulsy could as easily be cancer. I have been getting the "its all in your head " treatment for 6 years, now they believe it to be endometriosis. also had and abnormal pap ( 1 week after being blown off by the doc) and have HPV with pre-cancerous cells. dont be afraid- be aggressive for your answers. i hope this helps you:) 1. endometriosis2. ovarian cysts3. uterine fibriods4. diverticulitis5. pelvic inflammatory disease6. middleschmertz a good step is to have a colon check, pelvic ultrasound, pap smear and the CA125 blood test. Also, keep a chart of your symptoms and when they occur, especially highlight them if they usually occur on your period or right in between (ovulation time).
