Irregular Bleeding after Implanon

After having the implant fitted (Implanon) late August of this year I have had a very irregular bleed pattern (Where I have been on for over 2 weeks at a time!!!)
I have tried to stop this by taking the pill, but the pill I have been using (cerazette) has not been stopping my bleeds. Infact for a whole 3 weeks I had been bleeding while taking the pill, and as soon as I stopped taking them the bleed stopped.
But without taking them since, I have STILL been getting periods for around 2 weeks of every month.
As you can imagine, it is costing me a fortune in sanitaries and is very frustrating for me and my partner... Does anyone know if there is anything you can get from the chemist/family planning to help stop this! Would be much appreciated!! :)

  • First, are you sure you're not pregnant?Next, you can lose a lot of blood this way,so don't become anemic.Take plenty of iron supplements. As for the bleeding itself,it appears that the Implanon isn't working.I suspect that you're going to have to switch to something else.

  • Implanon is over 99.99% affective (not quite 100) it is completely normal to recieve bleeding after having it inserted into your arm, however, as advised I did take the pill to try and correct this, and to bring the bleeding to a norm, but it hasn't worked. and I am 100% positive I am not pregnant! I am just simply trying to find if there are any medicines on the market today to stop the irregularity of the "menstrual cycle" I am receiving these days!!! Thanks x

  • You are likely to have irregular and unpredictable periods on Implanon.

  • I was made aware of that before I had the Implanon fitted, now it is becoming a bit of a nuisance...

  • How long has the Implant been in? If more than three months - unfortunately this is the bleeding pattern for you with this method and might be worth considering a different method. If you are still early on in use - adding in the pill (but not Cerazette - one with ethinystradiol in it ie a combined pill) can help or mefanemic acid (Ponstan). • I have had the implanon for the past 3 years and never had a period. I then had it changed in Aug and didnt even have spot bleeding. Until January almost 5 months later I had a period, which was the normal 4/5 days like I used to have. Then again 8 weeks after that, then went down to 3 weeks after the last, which has lasted for 6 days and counting. What does this mean? Because I thought you would get your irregular bleeding for 3 months after.

  • i am almost ready to have my implant removed or replaced, for the first year, my implant worked great, hardly no bleeds at all, but for the last 2 years i have been havin irregular bleeds constantly, almost every other week for a week, it's mainly dry blood, but sometimes it can be a heavy flow, so i went to the doctor and they did a check for stds, 'to rule out infection' and they found i did have one, although i found out i'd only had it for a couple of months, so that doesn't count for the past 2 years of irregular bleeding, since i had the infection cleared up it still happens, it's so frustrating, the nurse said that it does happen on occasions and it's just your body rejecting it, although it still keeps you from getting pregnant, so i'd advise you to try a different form of contreception, i'm booked in next week to have my implant removed and i'm going to try the injection as that's also meant to prevent periods, which would take a lot of hassle off my shoulders...i'm not sure how old this post is or how many people have given you tips, but i thought i'd share that with you and i hope everything goes well :)

  • I have had Implanon for about 8 months now, and I am having it removed. My doctor said that the pill will help, but then he mentioned that sometime taking a course of antibiotics will straighten it out. I'm not sure how much truth there is to this, but it might be worth asking your doctor about. As for me I have had irregular bleeding (almost every day of the month) for the last 8 months. It isn't very heavy, but it is VERY annoying. I have also gained about 15 lbs, and I am a bit more moody than I used to be. Since my insurance is about to expire, I am having mine removed. I don't even want to try to fix it. I just don't think I could take another two years of this. Good luck to all of you ladies.

  • I've been on Implanon now for 2 months. My Dr said it would take that long for the bleeding to stop. I bleed every single day. I've back to see him and he says everything is normal but I've noticed darker circle under my eyes than usual. I am prone to dark circle anyway but I have never had them this badly unless I'm sick with a sinus infection or something. Do you think this could be making me become anemic? I love the fact that I don't have to take a pill everyday and I love that this is the only birth control I've been on that hasn't made me gain weight but this bleeding is just out of control. I don't know when my last period was because I bleed everyday anyway. Not to mention tampons are not cheap. I usually can buy a box that'll last about every 2 to 3 periods. I've bought4 boxes in 2 months. This is ridiculous. Does it ever stop?

Ya I guess it's a good birht control cause your husbands doesn't ever want to get near you! I'm thinking about getting mine out and just using the good old protection... and yes I would think that losing that much blood from periods can make you anemic
