Instant prednisone

I have a cough with any deep inhalation, it vanishes within 5-10 minutes with 10-20mg prednisone. I'm told that the steroid takes at least 20 minutes to enter the system and take effect. I find beneficial effects sometimes occur within a minute or two.
I'm told that my effect must be placebo - i'm prepared to accept that, (but will do some more testing (double blind) first). Could Prednisone have another property, apart from the steroid affect, that could be assisting my breathing?

  • Please tell us the inactive ingredients on your inhaler's label. Also, do you take this every few hours or so, or just when you cough? Or are you taking pills?

  • I take oral prednisone - even 5mg seems to have a significant effect. Currently, I have almost been convinced that it is a placebo effect (but at least it still works!). With more research, I wonder if it is possible that the dissolved prednisone - chewed is better, has a sedative (possibly toxic) effect on the vocal cords as it passes by, on the way to the stomach. This could possibly affect the Vocal Cords and stop the cough?
