Background: I got very sick with the FLU ( I thought it was ) about 5 months ago now, and ever since then I have not felt 100%. I have been to the doctor about 5 times and he has no idea what is wrong with me. Im a 17 year old boy and all my symptoms are starting to effect my everyday life/school work.

Symptoms: ( Not sure if all are related )
-Headaches Most Days (Cant Pinpoint a location )
- Coughing up Phlegm
- Ears don’t pressurise, always seem blocked.
- Sometimes get blurry vision after trying to focus. ( I can see fine, just sometimes it goes blurry )
- Eczema Like rash on innerlegs/bottom and behind my knees ( Had since I was about 3 ) which clears up to a degree with creams etc.
- Sometimes I have a stiff neck.
- Ear Pain with under water for a short period of time.
- Not feeling 100% sometimes have goosebumps etc.
- Letting off some unpleasant gasses from time to time.
- Sometimes feel tired.
- Random Muscle Twitches in fingers arms and toes.

Doctors Perscribed:
1. Amoxicillin Tablets, With Repeat – DID NOTHING
2. Junior Nose Spray to take with hay fever tablets – DID NOTHING.
3. Amoxicillin Clavulanic Acid Tablits with Repeat – DID NOTHING

What could this be, he said the last tablets would kill the virus that is causing the blocked sinuses but its done nothing.
He also said, if this does not work, he will get some scans done of my head/sinus
But I’m not to sure how all the symptoms link up, why do I feel sick when I just have blocked ears?

All help would be great Thanks.

  • i wonder if you have some food allergies .. maybe be tested for those .......... Also have you made sure you sight is okay.. as something like that could cause a couple of your symptoms. So get your site checked to rule out that causing the vision issues. post back if your symptoms become worst or you get more of them.

  • im not a doctor so i could be wrong.if you got the antibiotics *after* the ear and throat problems, then scroll past the ---- marks i dont know what is wrong with you, but if you got them before then...:antibiotics are known to cause late term side effects such as fungal infections. here is how it works: there are bacteria living in your throat that are not bad for you, but they get killed by antibiotics, once they are dead, fungi can grow inside your throat, and since your throat and ear are connected, it can easily spread. bring that up for the doctor and see what he says--------------------if he gave you the antibiotics afterwards:it is not unknown that the flu would cause symptoms that last past the initial infection. for example, it is somewhat common for people to have blurred vision after the flu, since it can cause the tiny blood vessels in your eye to become inflamed. go to an ear nose and throat doctor, not a physician and see what they say. if your mucus is not clear or white-ish, or it is green/yellow or brown, then you have a throat infection.if you took asprin while you had the flu, get a liver function test as well, because taking asprin while having a viral infection can cause liver damage. the CDC recommends that people under 19 not take asprin while they have any kind of fever causing infection, it could lead to reye's syndrom.my final recommendation: go to an ear nose throat doctor, not just a normal doctor. it is likely that these symptoms may go away after a while, the flu can cause longer lasting symptoms caused by actual physical damage to your body. if you took asprin also get a liver function test.

  • UPDATE:I was issued a SINUS CT the other day and i went to the doctors today to look at the results, he said it was all clear. Then he issued me with a blood test. Which he said to get after 10 days. As he thinks the headaches could be due to Stress or Stiff Neck. Which i doubt as i have so much phlegm and my ears dont pressurise. The bloodtest request form says. FBE, UEC, LFT, RBG, ESR, CRP, EBV, CMV serology. What test is it requesting???

  • Have they tested you for Tick born infections? Ever had any cat bites or scratches? Check out www.lymenet.org/ and see if you can relate to anything there. Good luck. ~~JerseyLymie

The tests are for general blood things and viruses eg glandular fever/mono and cytomegalovirus. Just basic tests to rule things out. Nothing to be concerned about.
