Hi everyone,
I have told my story under share your medical story, with no response yet.
If any one knows why due to pneumothorax or oxygen deprivation, my left leg swells, once stable blood pressure is all over(always higher) and recently 1/2 of left hand swelled. Problems that have appeared to correct themselves are that I'm now sweating under left arm pit again, as I always had prior to pneumothorax.
Prior to pneumothorax never had swelling or edema problems and blood pressure was always approx 113/70.
Any ideas out there? I'm pretty freaked out about the whole deal, as i'm getting total run around fromm medical community. Last cardio I saw asked me why I made an appointment with him? I answered my left leg was swollen when made appointment now it remains swollen or misshapen how ever you want to call it. My left hand was only swollen at one joint he said it looked painful. In telling him my once stable blood pressure is all over the place. i said what unless it 200/100 don't worry , he said yes. That was at one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation, located in St.Louis, mo.
So understandabally I'm quite concerned. Would appreciate any input.HELP world peace:eek:

  • Sounds like you have been through a lot, and sorry to hear of your troubles. Is your edema the pitting type? Does it leave an indentation when you press on it? This is important and if it is pitting this is a more serious matter than just water retention. How long have you been having these symptoms? From a Chinese medicine standpoint your symptoms make some sense. After a pneumothorax, your lung function is very weak. The kidneys have a strong relationship to the lungs, and when the lungs are weak the kidneys' function of water metabalism will be weak, resulting in edema signs. The heart gets involved because of the kidney's dysfunction. Kidney is water and Heart is fire and together they have a very symbiotic relationship. When one is out of balance the other will be too... Okay, maybe you didn't want to hear my Chinese medical perspective:rolleyes: , but I am telling you this because there is an interrelatedness between all of the organs, and Western medicine just doesn't look at the body this way. To help with your edema and water retention you might want to try a mild food diuretic like parsley or alfalfa and see if this helps. An Oriental medical practitioner may be able to get you back in balance as well. Best wishesDOM
