i have had menstrual problems since i first got my period when i was 12. i am twenty now and have been put on so many types of birth contols to help regulate my period and control my cramping i have been on the shot, about 8 different oral contraceptives, the patch and the nuva ring. nothing seems to help. four months ago i stopped taking birth contol out of my own choice because of the massive mood swings and personality changes i was having. my period seemed to regulate itself on its own and everything was great until two months ago when my period had bad cramping and oddly lasted 6hrs and consisted of minor spotting. thats when i made an appointment with my obgyn and got put on the nuva ring this months period was even worse i had the worst pain imagineable and barely any bleeding and then still on the first day of my period i passed two chunks of tissue at first i thought they were clots but under closer observation i noticed that they were peices of skin that resembled chicken skin and felt gritty like chicken skin. i brought the tissue to my doctors office and i am still waiting for my pathology results. the doctors office had me take a variety of pregnancy tests and had all of them come back negative. i am concerned about this because i cant really find anything online that involves passing tissue other than stuff on misscarrage wich im sure i didnt do. and i am afraid my dr. wont be able to tell me whats wrong and will just suggest anyother birth control has anyone else ever heard of such a thing happening?

  • it sounds like you have fibroids and/or endometriosis with all your painful periods and general hormone imbalance. I'm guessing what you passed was tissue from a fibroid.

I would believe that the particular type of birth control that was inserted into the uterus might have triggered the particularly bad period. Ask the doctor what type of birth control is most appropriate with endometriosis--which he/she may need to diagnose with you. If that is what you have, birth control pills may be more appropriate. This is based on my own experience and I am not a physician, but I am a well read mental health professional who has had a similar experience.
