Hello, I need advice to help a friend who I'm concerned about their current and future conditions.
I have a friend I met recently who has gone through a lot of emotional stress over the past few years and has developed a constant depression. This is one of the things that concern me, is because, although she is getting better, she has been neglegting her health. She has no appatite what so ever and will not eat. She also often refuses to sleep nor wants to. These both worry me as she is often too tired to function properly yet her body makes no urge to aleiviate this, such as hunger or tiredness. She often is light headed or fatuiged. She is in a current situation were she can not see a doctor due to no health care and no funds to see one. I have no real medical experience so I have no idea what to look for, and I was hoping to get some help here.
Thank you for your time.

  • It would be easy for a doctor to diagnosis her with plain old, ordinary depression. However, by her symptoms alone she may have another condition which is causing the depression.Depression can cause those very symptoms. And so can many other conditions. That's why she needs to see a doctor. Find a low cost clinic and have her get tested for hypothyroidism. The trick will be a doctor willing to look past the "depression" symptoms and not assume that is it.I know, I've been there a thousand times, and misdiagnosed because of it. I was treated for the depression and never for the the disease which was causing the depression. :( After 30 plus years I finally found someone who won't treat the depression because it's a symptom of the disease. And now I am getting treatment I need.I too had no appetite, was fatigued, had difficulty sleeping, lightheaded among many other things. I wasn't neglecting my body and bodily functions, I simply couldn't care for myself because of my symptoms which would exacerbate my symptoms. It's a round robin in which the symptoms worsen the symptoms. And of course, she may have the garden variety of depression which is very possible too. It can cause all those symptoms you mentioned. And so can lack of proper sleep. There another round robin.
