Im a 23 year old male. I am very worried. Around my anus area, where i spread my butt cheeks, it is VERY swollen. It is dark and just look swollen. I'm am Asian by the way. The thing is it has been like this for a year and maybe a bit more. The thing is i never went to the doctor because i thought it would go away but it didnt. I also did not went because i was very scared. The pain also hurts too on the left side of my anus.

Today i went to the doctor and showed him my butt. Also told him it has been a while since i had this and it was not recent. He checked it out and gave me some pill to take and most importantly some cream to put on 3 times a day. He told me my butt has an infection but wants to see what this cream he prescribed me will do. I will see him next Friday again and he told me if it doesn't get better, he would have to send me to a surgeon. I am very worried right now because I felt like an idiot not going to the doctor when I saw this close to a year ago. Again, i didn't went bc i was scared to death and hoped it would go away.

If I don't spread my butt cheeks, I look in the mirror and i see that the inside of it looks very swollen and if i got injured or something. If i spread it, it looks very bad. There is a lump on the inside left of my anus. I also feel the pain there as well The doctor i went to today noticed this and told me.

I am very tramatized right now. I know the cream he gave me isn't going to help since i will use it for 1 week because i went to him too late. If i went to my doctor last year, everything would probably be fine and the necessary actions would been done quit. I waited too long and now I think i might have cancer or some uncureable tumor on my anus. He also had a very concerned look on his face when he saw this.

If he sends me to a surgeon, do any of you know what they are going to do? I thought he would send me to a skin doctor but he didnt mention that.

I am very scared at this moment and cannot think about anything else right now.

Again, my butt area hurts bc i have this lump on the left side of the inside of my butt cheeks. Both the left and right side surrounding areas of my butt looks very swollen. It looks blackish.

I feel like life is over for me.

  • well i definitely don't think life is over for you. I used to be a medical assistant for a general surgeon. Honey, we saw EVERYTHING. Don't think you are alone in not going to the doc. TOOO many people wait to go, but its only very very rarely that its too late. In my opinion, this does not sound like cancer or a tumor. It sounds like a clotted infection has formed a lump. Are any of the infected areas open? Like a sore or cut? If so, this can be a BIG reason for the discoloration. Also, skin in our nether regions tends to become a very dark color when there is an infection or irritation. The infections we used to see on or around the bottom usually was an in-office surgery where they cut out the infection and the surrounding area. Its normally not a deep cut or anything and kinda just is like taking an ice cream scooper and scooping it out. You will need to start this now and continue after anything is done, LIGHTLY scrub the area with a rag and DIAL soap. It WILL hurt, but clean it as well as you can everyday becasue that is a bad place to have an infection. Anyway, I hope this helps. I wouldn't worry, and if they send you to a general surgeon, its not the end of the world! It will probably be a quick procedure that will take a couple of check-up visits after. I think ur ok! :D

  • The surgeon today was definitely upset that i didnt came to him when this happened. I guess this was around 1 year to 1.5 years ago when i noticed this. I told him about the cream doctor gave me and he told me it was useless. Today, he put a needle or something in my butt to pop something. It could have been a knife i am not sure because i was not looking when he did this. It was some in office surgery that he just performed when i went into his office. Now it is very swollen. He sticked those pads in my butt area now but i will have to take it out later at night. He told me it was most likely palypus? I dont remember the name of it but it started with a P and it was a long word. Something like 10-15 letters probably. He did mention it could be an ingrown hair that caused this. He also gave me some cephalexin to take every 6 hours a day. He also scheduled an appointment for me to meet him on Saturday morning as well.He also said we might do nothing or do some operation. I am very worried right now. I definitely want some operation done because my butt cheek surrounding area is very reddish/blackish. He also told me to lie in my bathtub 3-4 times a day and just lye there. Anyone know why he told me that?anyone? i have to go back saturday morning

  • Sounds like you have a Pilonidal cyst or an anal abscess. Soaking, especially with some gentle scrubbing, helps cleanse the infected area as well as remove dead tissue and blood clots that can harbor bacteria. I don't think you need to worry to much about surgery. If you do need it, then it will be minor and you will get better alot faster. Kiera

  • I think he did say it was a pilonidal cyst. Do you know if i do surgery, does it mean i have to stay at home for a period of time? Someone mentioned on another messageboard yahoo answers that you might have to not leave home for 3 weeks after the surgery?Do you also know if it would help with the reddish/blackish area around my buttocks? I mean it looks infected if you take a picture of it. I am very embarrassed as well.

  • Hi, The discoloration of the skin will improve greatly, but you might have some sort of scarring. (Definilty ALOT better then it looks now tho). You will be up and around in no time if you do need surgery, but if you have a recurrent or complicated pilonidal cyst there are a few different surgical techniques can be used. The difference in these techniques are simple. One is leaving the surgical wound open after surgery and allowing it to heal by giving a longer healing time, but having a lower recurrence rate. Or by closing the surgical wound during surgery, and giving a shorter healing time, but higher recurrence rate. Take one step at a time, and learn from what you have experienced. Never leave things untreated. Benign things can actually turn in to cancer, so pull yourself to the doctor no matter how scared you might be. The results of not going could be ALOT worse! Good luck, Kiera

  • I know it's hard, but try not to worry. You're only 23, at your age you're so healthy that I'm sure you'll be fine. Like Kiera said, it sounds like a pilodonial abscess (darn my spelling!)At 23 your body is just about perfect, old enough to be mature, young enough to not have any condition that's related to aging -you should be fine and I'm sure you will be ok.My husband is 35 and he's Asian too, and, well, I think he's of the older generation, the kind that needs to be dragged to the doctor by his wife or mother! At least you are a sensible young man and modern enough that you will see the doctor without your wife or mother dragging you there! You're intelligent and young and you will be fine! Of course you're embarassed, most people are when it comes to a medical condition that affects our private parts, but you already have shown that you're intelligent and brave as you went by yourself to see the doctor and get it sorted. Good for you!Remember the doctors have seen it all before! They see so many bottoms on a daily basis that they won't remember yours! Please don't worry. I hope you'll constantly see the doctor till you get reassured and get it sorted. I know you'll be fine.take carexx

  • I went to a doctor and was referred to a surgeon b/c my butt cheek area , the whole surrounding area is very dark and looked infected. I went to my surgeon and he did an office surgery when i got there and told me i had a Pilonidal cyst. Well he took a knife and cut some part of my skin on Thursday and told me to stay in my bathtub with running water and lye 3-4 times a day for my butt to circulate.I will be going back on Tuesday as another follow up. I might have the operation i dont know yet. However, since he already did the in office surgery on Thursday, he noticed that my butt area is not as reddish/black as it was before. Yes i know the area around my butt and genitals is suppose to be darker than your skin but my butt cheeks and the surroudning areas are VERY dark. i am asian male 23 by the way. When i look at the mirror, my butt cheeks and the area surrounding my *******e is very dark. I asked my doctor would the discoloration go away since most likely it was the pilonidal cyst that caused this and he said most likely not. Does anyone know what i can do? My butt area looks black and bruised obviously it was from the infection of the pilondial cyst. I didnt went to the doctor 1 -1.5 year ago when i noticed this b/c I was very scared.I googled and saw some things on anal bleaching but is that for the butt? This is very embarrassing as well for me. I also saw that they say dont use the product if the area is infected and what not so I don't think i should use that. Again, my butt cheeks when i spread a little looks VERY BLACK like i had some BIG bruises there and it loks like it will stay there forever.Does anyone know what i can do specifically? Thank you.

  • okay, hun, i hope everything works out. And, it might just take some time for the skin discoloration to go away. But after reading this, i can relate.I'm a 15 year old female, and about a week ago i had excuricating pain right where my butt crack(very embarrassing) starts. Its getting worse, and its very swollen, and my skin is starting to get a little darker around the area.At first i thought it was a pilonidal cyst,b ut then it started to feel more like a cut.. So, what i'm thinking is it's a infected cut, and i'm putting neosporin and hydrogen peroxide on it to heal it. It hasnt had any improvement yet, but i'm trying to not go to the doctor, because, like you, i am very very embarrassed by this. I can't sit down, or lie on my back. I can barely walk. The pain is very very intense, a level ten, and as a cutter (self mutilation) that is very unusual for me, because i have a very high pain tolerance. This pain is unbearable and i don't know what to do. If anyone has a solution please respond. I'm not getting sleep either, and today when i looked it the mirror it looks like its getting worse. But the swelling around the crack has gone down a little.Thank you for reading, please help me.
