I was recently told that I have herpes because I have vaginal sores. THey said that this is my first breakout so I must have contracted it between 2 and 20 days before the symptoms started. I really do not believe that that is true because my boyfriend does not have it. The doctor would not give me a blood test because he said that they are not accurate. Is there any test that can tell me for sure? I also was told a week before that I had a yeast infection. I was wondering if there are any other possible reasons for the sores. I am not sure if it is related, but I have been having lower stomach pains on and off for a while also. Please help me if you have any ideas.
Thank you.

  • It can take a month or longer for the first outbreak to occur. How do you know your boyfriend doesn't have it- because you've never seen an outbreak on him or because he told you this? If you do some research on herpes, you will find its similar to many STDs and viruses- you can get it without actually touching a sore on an infected person (saliva can do it), the virus has "active" cycles where it may be active in the body without an actual outbreak, etc. If your boyfriend is infected with the virus, then he can transmit it- end of story. You could have gotten it from a previous boyfriend, you could have spread it to your vaginal area from somewhere else. If a doctor confirms you have cold sores, then its most definately herpes. He is not a dermatologist however, so it's possible you have something else and the doctor misdiagnosed your condition. You could speak with a dermatologist. If you also had a yeast infection, it sounds like your immune system may be down, and that could easily explain the herpes appearing.

  • Hi....In my personal opinion I beleive the doctor. Herpes. You need to get more information on this subject. It is possible that you may have contracted it and haven't had any breakouts until now. Please read up on the subject. I also have herpes.

  • My situation sounds identical to yours. I noticed a few days ago that a sore appeared on the inside of my labia. I tried to treat it with over the counter ointment, but it only got worse. Today I went to the doctor and immediately she diagnosed me with herpes. My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 1/2 years and both were virgins before we had sex together. Herpes is an extreme long shot, but the doctor seemed certain even after I explained myself. I am waiting on the results from the culture, but in the meantime she has me taking Valtrex. If the test comes back positive, I will seek out a second opinion. Perhaps you should do the same. Good luck!

  • Your boyfriend can have and not know; that's how it spreads. You don't need any symptoms. Have him get a blood test and you find a new doctor to get an IgM and IgG blood test for herpes 2; at the least, your doctor was remiss not to scrape the sore and do lab work.
